I think we as fans as well as the players and coaches would love to have the Montana, Western Illinois and Youngstown state games back. But a win is a win and a loss is a loss. How about giving the coaches and players credit for great wins over South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Illinois State. Injuries are a part of football, but when you consider that we played without Weston, Ellis, Hartford, Kolarvic, Suntken, Williams, Nimmers, Lambert, ( I'm sure I forgot some) in the playoffs. I choose to tip my hat to the effort that these guys played with all year long.

I do not agree with everything Farley does either but I do know a good coach when I see one. Farley lives and breathes UNI and Panther football. 11 playoffs 16 winning seasons in 18years, recruits quality kids with a high percentage of players that graduate. It is apparent that some of you would find fault with God coaching UNI football!!! True Panther fans are positive people. All of these negative post do nothing to support UNI athletics! Thankyou Blue 42 for your summary and keeping things positive.
Farley also had more 5 loss, or more, seasons than any other coach in UNI history

And he had accomplished that in just the last 6 years

UNI had 24 seasons of 5 losses it more before Father got here

Farley has 9 on his own.

Literally half his seasons have ended with at least 5 losses .

100 seasons of football before Farley, 24 seasons with 5 losses

18 seasons with Farley 9 seasons with at least 5 losses. Including the last 7, and 8 of the last 9

coincidentally, those last 6 years have been when the conference has been the toughest conference in the subdivision, and the OOC scheduling has been against tougher opponents during that span than it has in the past.

I'm not denying that there has been coaching issues, but it is also important to keep the context in mind. Many of the 3 or 4 loss teams from the past would have had 5 losses against the schedules of the past few years.

My issue with farley is not based on one season. It’s been trending for a while. UNI football has the tradition, resources, support, etc to be in the playoffs every year...bar none. They also should be competing for the marbles every 3-4 yrs. The Dome should be selling our for NDSU games and never get below 10-12k. We need a more consistent passing game, a more aggressive defense and outside David Johnson, have not gotten the quality back we’ve had in the past either

          • I guess my thing is how many times have we made the playoffs, and what 1 time playing for the title, looks at NDSU 6 titles in 7 years are they that much better as far as athletes or is it the coaching or both, a note on that they changed coaches and never lost a step as well, I think it is time for a change Farley is just to predictable as a coach and UNI just keeps suffering for it, ya he is the winingest coach at UNI but just getting a few ins during the season, then getting taken out by round 2 isn't good enough we should be up there with the NDSU and SDSU teams

            • Being a head coach at the FCS Level for 18 years is a giant red flag.

              It's time.

I suppose you consider being a head basketball coach at a mid-major school for 12 years to be a giant red flag as well.

I don't as they're not comparable. What about staying 18 years at a mid-major volleyball league?

The biggest difference is that Jake and Bobbi both have documented instances where they could have jumped for bigger jobs and bigger paydays. They also both have the opportunity to compete at the highest level in their respective sports.

Mark, outside of one passing Ball State rumor, has never really had any interest at the next level. In football, we basically play at the third highest level of the sport where there is much greater upward mobility.

Probably not the prime example to use after the reenactment of the Hindenburg in Minneapolis Saturday.

Agreed, to a point. You’re forgetting that USD, SDSU, and NDSU all took 180+ scholarships away from the area UNI used to recruit. That includes Iowa. There have been some good Iowa players who have signed with the DSU’s in recent years. Not all will pan out, but they all are at UNI’s level, in an area UNI used to own. U of Iowa also has picked off a few of them after FCS offers. It’s all a huge drain on the talent pool, in the upper Midwest as well. None of that works in UNI’s favor, like it or not.

None of the above excuses the running QB fixation, but the current situation is what it is.

                      • It's not a talent issue at UNI. Period.

Talent at UNI is the only thing that had kept uni at bring a 5 or 6 loss team. Not a 8 or 9 loss team.

                        The issues are schematic.
The issues are lack of discipline.
The issue is that no matter who turns over on the staff or is calling plays nothing changes.
The issue is literally everyone knows exactly what UNI is doing on offense 6 plays before UNI knows what they are doing .

This isn't an issue of our non white city kids from non rural Iowa or St Louis or Kansas City or Chicago or the Cities being taken. Talent is not an issue .

The two and a half exceptions I'll make of NDSU of SDSU stealing guys that hurt - which is a matter more of Farley not recruiting them properly - are:

Lance Dunn being told he isn't a running back at UNI and only a LB. Imagine him instead of Weymiller in our backfield. Marcus is a GREAT person and ambassador for UNI. He busts his ass. He isn't the same galaxy as Dunn. Dunn ended up in Fargo because we treated him like Iowa and Iowa State treated David Johnson. He had 4 TDs on 6 carries Saturday. He's never had more than 20 carries in a game and has 3000 yards in his career at 6 ypc. While splitting time with 4 other RBs. He wanted to be here as a RB .if we offer him as a RB he's here. Not there .That's 1000pp% a miss on Farley.

Easton Stick and there isn't a ton we can do but it's a miss to NDSU that hurt. He was going to come here and his HS teammate (you might know RJ Urzendowski) convinced him to go to NDSU with him. So outside of recruiting RJ 2 years earlier not a ton can be done to win that battle but there is one I'm willing to concede as a miss.

Taryn Christion was debated as an athlete/WR out of HS or a QB. He wanted to play QB. UNI told him WR or safety. SDSU said you'll get a full year at QB and nothing else to see what you can do. He picked SDSU (and it is only an hour from home for him).

Outside of those three big names, we've lost a few battles but nothing that actually diminished or total talent level.

I agree that talent hasn't been an issue....mismanagement of talent has been. Just look at our QB situation in recent history. Look at how DJ was used his senior year.

That’s what I was going to say. As good as Dunn,Stick and Christion are it’s because they are a part of programs that lets them succeed. Even if Dunn had to split time with 3 RBs here, I just don’t think Farley would find a way to use him or the others to their full potential. How many other players besides Johnson were misused this way over their careers at UNI?
