  • Anybody know if Jed Smith is still working with the football team in the same capacity as he did during Farley's tenure?

    Anything change there?
Winning is more fun than losing.

      No change. He's the guy.

        • Jonathan Cabral-Martin has pulled his name out of the portal and will return.

He wasn't great last year but experience is going to matter some this year.

            • Obviously everything is just on paper at this point, but I really like the athletes the staff is bringing in. It sounds like a few more should be known soon, too.

                • Bob Nielson stepping down at South Dakota.

DC Travis Johanson, who got an interview in the first round for our job, will be promoted.

Can't find any reasoning, just a preliminary Pete Thamel report.

Very strange that he waited to long to step down. Will be fascinating to see what the reasoning was.

There were positions that I'm fairly certain Farley didn't fill in previous seasons, so I don't think these are people who stepped down, just empty holes. If anything, this may help us fill all our assistant roles. If I'm wrong, I'm certain someone will correct me on it.

Yeah. No concerns there. It's for grad school level analysts/younger coaches.

Kind of the stuff that Farley didn't embrace to keep a tight circle. I actually think it's a fairly positive development. You can have 15 coaches now so you might as well use the spots.

I actually think these were positions where Coach Q pulled with him to Missouri Valley when he got the head coach gig. I've seen a few grad level kids get position roles with Q down there the last couple days.

Ryan Clanton's house in Ankeny just hit the market. I'm guessing he's headed for the NFL.

Interesting. If true, this coincides with Matt Campbell flirting with the NFL a couple of times in the last few years. Clanton may see that and realize his current boss is looking. I doubt Campbell gets the Bears job, but as a Bears fan, I know they are stupid enough to hire a college coach with zero NFL experience. That Campbell is interviewing for NFL teams must mean he views that as his next step. He’s reportedly turned down interest from some big college programs.
