Anyone else find the “NFL” tweets from Heath and Bissacia a bit cringey? Seems like we’re trying too hard to sell this hire

Nate Thompson is coming from Drake to be Offensive Coordinator.

Late 20s, has never worked for a scholarship program and was not the play caller for Drake last year.

Hmm... goes back to the did we hire the best available or just what we know. Well at least the bar is set so low it will hard to have a worse season next year than what we were left with.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

At least he seems likely to stay in the job until next season begins. That's worth... something.

Good point. Some better continuity amongst the staff could be positive here...if these guys can coach. The turnover the last decade has not helped us.

Our turnover has been no different than any other staff in the country at the D1 level.

Hell, I'd argue as much as we've had Nelson, Paup, JJ, Keelon, and Atif over the last 15-20 we've had better stability than most.

                Offensive coordinators and QB coaches?

Al Smith is coming with him.

By far his best assistant. Was thought to be taking a MAC job

Skimming thru this year’s Drake roster, there’s a fair amount of Iowa natives. Someone on his staff must have some ties to the Chicago suburbs, lots of guys from there too. Some WI and MN too. Also enough mixed in from CO, AZ and OK that they must’ve had someone active in those areas as well.

It’ll be interesting to see how quickly he and his staff pick up on the game involving the portal and NIL. I’d assume most/all of Drake’s NIL $ went to men’s and women’s basketball, but that’s just a guess.

Yes, but a very common thing to do.

Al Smith as DC is official. Was certainly the best assistant at Drake so he was an important piece. Kind of surprised he didn't get the job there.

It's a total system change. Pressure, man, blitz packages, lots of different looks.

Good. This defense needs a total revamp. Our current defense reminds me of the Leslie Frazier bend but don't break. Works great until it breaks constantly.

I was under the impression that Stepsis was the offensive playcaller at Drake, are we under the assumption that will happen here as well? If so, that OC job is more of a title job than anything else, similar to Coach Farley with Defense.

Good to see the staff coming together.

As of a few days ago, he was not planning on being the play caller but that certainly could, and seems like it did, change.
