I don't understand the problem here. Some people have felt UNI isn't doing enough to sell the hire, now we're trying too hard? Come on, now. I felt like those tweets also pointed out coaching experience that doesn't necessarily go on a resume when you're helping in NFL camps and things similar to that.

i agree. we're going from "why isn't the athletic department trying to sell us on this hire" to "wtf why are they trying to sell us on this hire????"Originally posted by Wxcpanther View Post

Our average tenure is no different than anyone else in that regard. I know it's hard to believe that because we can't see the forest through our own trees.Originally posted by Blue42 View Post
Offensive coordinators and QB coaches?
Average tenures at the FCS level are harder to track because the general public doesn't care. However, the chance it is different than the FBS in any meaningful way is as close to zero as you could get. I'd argue the tenure in the FCS is lower than the FBS average as the FCS is generally a stepping stone that is moved off of more quickly than G5 or P5 positions.
According to Business insider the average FBS head coaching tenure is 3.8 years, and there is a 5 year turnover rate of about 68%.
If the average tenure of a HC is 3.8 years the average assistant tenure isn't going to be longer. I can't find overly consistent numbers, but a coordinator's average tenure is something like 2.5-3 years and position coaches 1.5-2.5 years.
It would be amazing to have the same coaches, winning, year after year after year. The reality of athletics once you pass high school is that isn't how it works.

JC Roque Jr also pulling out of the portal and returning.
So, at this point, it would just be Butler (not coming back for sure), Cabral-Martin and Vislisel as contributors still in the portal.
D-Line has to be the focus. We were bad there this year and it has to be good if the system they're bringing is going to work.

I guess my feeling is that the administration shouldn’t need to “sell” the candidate they hired if it’s a fit. There’s very reasonable questions about fit here, but a confident administration lets him get to work and doesn’t publicly share stuff like this. The only thing that will convince people is winning.Originally posted by Wxcpanther View Post

The administrations job is 100% to sell people about the hire, get people excited about the hire so they buy tickets. That is the case whether you have hired Todd Stepsis or Bill BelichekOriginally posted by edgecat View Post

That's a pretty weak take IMO. Every school does this. It's fun to hear about accomplishments. After the lackluster results over the last decade, I think it's okay to use the marketing people we pay to market this program to make it something to look forward to. By your logic why promote anything essentially? Just let the W's speak for itself. Hate to say it, but that's not the program we are. We're not in the same visible market as the Iowa States and Iowas of the world. They get all the love from outside news agencies, we don't. We have to sell things. It's part of the way to keep this program relevant.Originally posted by edgecat View Post

Feels like at least one commitment. What I am not sure about it is a sign that our entire staff is going to send a tweet out every time we get one, which isn't a bad way to build hype, or each one got one over the weekend. I'm guessing the former. A massive change from our program/coach social media presence before. Everyone involved with the program right now has matching profile banners, which shows program unity at the top.Originally posted by edgecat View PostLot of “new panther “ tweets coming from Drake guys coming over. Curious if this is their announcement or if we’re hammering recruiting?
Just as an update to our current staff since the website isn't updated, and probably won't until everything is completely done and the spring roster is setTodd Stepsis Head Coach Nate Thompson Offensive Coordinator/TE Coach Rick Nelson OL Coach Jax Ostroski Asst OL Coach Jack Johnson WR Coach Michael McCourt RB Coach/ST Coordinator Al Smith Defensive Coordinator Christian Nussbaum DL Coach Riley Van Wyhe LB Coach Sean Hupke Safties Coach LaQuinton Black Corners Logan Meyer General Manager
That is 10 assistants. The FCS is allowed 13 full time assistants now. It will be interesting if those are used.
