i believe that is the case. so, in reality, we should just thank doug for his free publicity for UNI during the barnes recruiting saga.

We are still riding a wave of good press from the NCAA tournament, and we don't want to do anything that would tarnish that in the eyes of the national media or future recruits.
I really don't think UNI would look bad for not allowing Doug to leave.

I don't think we would look bad, but I'm not sure there is that much advantage to telling him no either. What would follow?

          1. He comes back to UNI. I'd be all for this, but it seems unlikely at this point.

          2. He sits out 2 years at CU. Not sure this does us all that much good either. He could very well be a better player from 20-24 then he would be from 18-22.

          3. He goes out of conference? Maybe this is all we could hope for.

Ok, let's say Doug originally signs with ISU and Greg gets fired. Doug simply follows his father to a new school or any other school. ISU would most likely release him like Iowa is doing for recruits who want to leave after Lick was fired.....That situation sounds less messy than this one don't you think?

I agree with you here. If anything, I think it makes Greg look underhanded for trying to take Doug with him after a LOI has already been signed, sealed, and delivered.

I think the rule means you only have 2 years of playing eligibility...not that you sit out 2 years and then play 4.

Possibly. I was assuming Greg would get fired sometime after Doug had played. Under that scenario, he has to sit out a year right?

I get the feeling that isn't going to happen here, but time will tell. If he doesn't, I really don't think its all that messy on his end.

Not really. At least one of those kids Iowa released is very upset right now as it turns out he can't accept a scholarship from another Big Ten school.

In terms of UNI "looking bad," we can't force Doug to play for UNI. That can't be said enough. UNI is not going to force him to play in CF. We can, however, enforce the restrictions on his transfer. That is done by schools all the time and does not affect their "image" at all.

It totally sucks for us, but we have to bite the bullet, take this, and move on. Doug McDermott is a great player, but he is only one player on a team. We still have the right coach for us, some amazing players returning, and recruiting is looking very good for us.

All that said, here's hoping we continue to kick Creighton's butt for many years to come.
Ditto: UNI is in a no win situation.

He could only redshirt one of those seasons, then sit one he would be a redshirt sophmore when he gets to play.

If we don't let Doug out of his LOI then Greg goes and makes UNI look like the bad guy, in his arrogant, two faced way.

To be honest it doesn't matter much, because the bridge will be burned.
