LOL, you've got to be kidding me. Weren't you the one criticizing UNI fans for even thinking about not attending this event? Don't you live in the DM area? Didn't you just say that UNI needs to "engage DM fans"? Come on.

i am not going to cheer for one team over the other, so i dont think it really matters if go.

the only reason i attend the uni-iowa football games is because my wife makes me. i am miserable the entire time because i hate losing more than I enjoy winning.

No one cares, but I will be attending, but will be sitting in the Drake Section(cousin is an alumni and wants to go). So I paid him for the ticket and will be sitting in the Drake Section.

Should be two good games and should be a neat atmosphere with all 4 of the states schools in one building. I think it will be good for the state of Iowa.

At least they will serve beer at the game (they are serving beer aren't they)?

think about the nearly-universal opinion on this board though. dont try to tell me that the games are not a huge deal and that iowa doesnt get UNI's best shot or close to best shot every year. any mid major win over a high major is important even if the two teams suck.

Fran: We just changed it where we're going to [play UNI every other year]. We've always played Home-n-Home. That's what makes rivalries what they are... It has to be: We don't know who's gonna win. It'll be a great game. IA-ISU has always been that way... UNI certainly more than crept into that conversation- they've become- put themselves right in the middle of it... If we play each other, we're gonna keep knocking each other off. And that's why a lot of schools at our level don't do that. I'm not playing those guys. Because you know what intensity means in this state. If you grow up in this state... you're wearing Hawkeyes (or Cyclone or occasionally UNI or Drake stuff). That's where it all stems from. There's no pro sports here. It's all college...

Katz: I think that one thing when you play those games- you know you play Northern Iowa - that's the biggest game on their schedule. Unfortunately for you, you've got to find ways to keep your kids in the present because you've got the cumulative effect of the Big Ten season which is brutal...

Personally, I think this is funny because of the delusional thinking on the part of Fran and Katz.
First, Fran is stating that he is canceling the Home-n-Home because he's afraid of loosing. (Also why this is pertinent to this thread)

Ok - so far that makes sense. It's not 100% that UNI will win these - probably more like 60-70%. But Iowa's chances are certainly a LOT better in 9 of their other 11 preseason games. UNI, ISU are certainly the best teams on their pre-season schedule. Average RPI of the 9 other teams: 262.
The game after UNI is South Carolina State, with an RPI of 343 (out of 344). Yeah, don't look ahead, guys! Focus!

We're playing A LOT of teams that are better than Iowa. Is there a special rivalry that makes us really want a W against Iowa. No more than St. Mary's, Creighton, UNLV, ISU, WSU, etc. And all those teams are tougher opponents. So, no, having B1G on your shirt does not make you automatically a big deal opponent. [/rant]

no offense, but i dont think you being being honest with yourself. just look at the reaction on this message board for example. by my math, iowa has sucked for 9 of the last 11 years yet the discontinuation of that game has caused universal OUTRAGE here. why?

If that's what he said, I just lost a lot of respect for Katz. I'll admit that there is a strong desire to beat Iowa, but I'd take 1 win against Creighton this year over 10 wins against Iowa.

I think what's also being missed is that Iowa also puts some added emphasis into this game. Why else were fans putting together Youtube videos trying to prove they got jobbed last year? While Fran is just a lunatic, his reaction was also reflective of how bad he wanted to put UNI in its "place" last year. The interest in, and intensity of, the game is a two way street. And if Iowa fans deny that "they're not being honest with themselves".

I would say because it shows continued disrespect of the UNI BB program by the Schmuckeyes. Personally, I would love to see us play it this year and never again. Go out on OUR terms.

also, home game for Drake? Most of my Panther fans have bought their tickets through the Drake ticket office

Because that's the only place you can buy tickets right? Panther fans would probably buy from UNI if they could.

Iowa is free to pick their own schedule, everybody knows that. Doesn't mean we can't be angered at WHY, which is the whole point that you cannot comprehend. Its about respect.

I think its funny that even Fran can openly admit the obvious reasons as to why the series ended, yet you still cannot.

It's a home court advantage for Drake, and to somewhat lessor degree ISU, for the usual reason, the games are being played in their town/area.

With tickets being evenly split UNI and Iowa can negate this advantage by selling tickets to their Dsm area fans, but to this point they have declined to do so. I suppose Iowa might have a couple hundred season ticket holders in Dsm, UNI I imagine has virtually none.

I thought one of the "positives" about this game was it gave Dsm area fans a chance to see the teams that they might not otherwise get. UNI could at least open it up to their PSC members in Dsm, not doing so just makes it harder to justify joining that group. They say there's only a dozen of us or so, what harm could it do?

Personally, its because I like it when UNI beats Iowa. Hoops is the sport where we can and often have beaten them. Take away hoops, and now whenever we play Iowa (football, wrestling), we lose. Thats why I was mad...not because we're missing out on a great non-conference opportunity to get an at-large.
