We don't have metal detectors at the door...which more and more major college stadiums are adding.

If it makes my family and yours safer, I'm fine with it.

If that costs someone the chance to drink one more Coors Light in the parking lot, I don't really care. And believe me...I really like Coors Light.

As for selling beer in the building, I'm in favor of it. If it becomes a problem then stop or limit where it can be drank. People like sports and beer. It'll raise revenue and attendance.
So, buying a $20 ticket is going to stop somebody from shooting the place up?

I'm now picturing a guy in full tactical gear following an elderly ticket takers instruction that he has to buy a ticket to get back in.

Wow. I can honestly say that I have never been to an event and worried about someone re-entering after half time to do a mass shooting.

There's no metal detectors. If a person was going to pull that **** they'd just bring it with them from the start. Someone looking to pull a mass shooting at the UNIDome at a UNI football game isn't going to need to scope it out. They'll already be more than familiar with what it's like. Places hit with mass shootings aren't spur of the moment. They are planed in advance. They familiarize themselves a head of time.
We'll...yeah someone could bring one in initially.

But its not really feasible to prevent initial entry now...is it?

As you said...places hit with mass shootings aren't spur of the moment. They're planned out in advance.

Sometimes Clenz...you have to consider the possibility that someone, such as a law enforcement professional, might know something more on a certain topic than you do.

I have had conversations and meetings and I am working on it. And they have been very gracious with their time to hear me out. But I can only do so much.

Here is what I encourage those of you who want to make a difference/impact. When you e-mail your complaints and frustrations, it goes a lot farther and you will be taken more seriously if you give actual concrete information and ideas for solutions. Emailing David Harris and saying that people don't attend games because the department doesn't tweet about when they are is bogus. (And yes - he's gotten emails like that). Emailing him and telling him that you would like to see a bit more creativity or that you would like to see more videos of or from players and student athletes... that's concrete advice that he can put to use. And if you want proof of that, just take a look at the UNI Men's basketball twitter account over the last few days.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

They can also come back in by either buying another ticket or having bought 2 tickets initially.

There is nothing that is safer by charging for re-entry. (They have not outlawed re-entry or locked the doors at half time).
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

I'm not saying they don't know more - I'm questioning reasoning. The reasoning isn't solid, or even not insane.

Security, in general, at UNI games is EXTREMELY light. If you think someone that wants to commits a mass shooting in the UNIDome - which involves shooting anyone and everyone they can - is going to be stopped because some 68 year old lady in a yellow ticketing shirt tells him "Sir/ma'am, you can't re-enter without buying a ticket" then I do question the judgement of that person - REGARDLESS what position or education they have.

In that situation the first casualty is that lady, and it isn't even a fraction of a second thought for the shooter.

If you use the idea that "It isn't preventable at initial entry" as an argument to "no-reentry" being a way to prevent it I can't take you (not you specifically, the larger you) seriously.

If law enforcement told Troy Dannen that re-entry needed to be stopped for fear of a mass shooting in the second half and Dannen's response wasn't "THEN GET ME EVERY ****ING COP YOU HAVE FOR GAMES AND INVESTIGATE WHY WE NEED TO WORRY ABOUT A MASS SHOOTING AT A UNI FOOTBALL GAME" and instead was "I'll just make it so you have to buy a ticket again and not add security" then he doesn't deserve a job outside of tedious assembly line job because he wouldn't be capable of making real decisions.

Nothing...and I mean absolutely nothing...about this "stopping a mass shooter in the dome" argument holds any water at all.

I'm telling you, when push came to shove it was about Dannen's need for control. He wanted to control people once they were in side. His believe was a person (actually many....if not all people that normally went outside... would buy a $4 bottle of water, a $4 brat and $3 bag of pop corn at halftime rather than grab something they had for a tailgate. I can't entirely fault his logic. His thought process in that regard wasn't wrong. It was, however, flawed. I would guess it had next to no impact on concessions sales. What it probably did was force people to get more creative on getting something in through the extremely tough security we have preventing the mass shootings.

As ubutnu said - you can still come back in at after half time if you have a second ticket....or I'm sure a gun would get you in too regardless if you technically needed a ticket. They aren't completely stopping re-renty. They must not be too worried about mass shootings. They aren't metal gating the doors at half. They aren't throwing a bunch of armed/armored security at the doors.

I'm more than willing to listen and talk about reasonable, and believable, arguments against re-entry. The idea that a person needing to buy a second ticket would stock a mass shooter isn't one of those that I will listen too.

Also, you agreed they are planning in advance. You don't think if someone just absolutely had it in their mind that the UNI/Indiana State football game in front of 8,500 people had to be their target they wouldn't spend the extra $20 on a ticket for after half - and why wait until after half? You don't think they'd already know that security is zero at UNI games and they'd just bring whatever their weapons were with them from the start? If someone really wanted to "do damage" at a UNI football game they wouldn't buy a ticket at all. They'd wait until 3:55 and just walk into the area of the dome where hundreds of people are going through ticket check and just open fire, and proceed further into the dome, without any ticket.

You're right, it would be unfair not to recognize the fact that they've clearly made an effort to improve on social media. They aired the press conference too, which was a really pleasant surprise.

                      Its a promising start

                      • Not to mention that if a shooter wanted to make it a mass casualty incident, the first half is the time to do it. We all have seen a lot of people and students leave after halftime and not come back, so I agree with Clenz that couldn’t have a been a recommendation from law enforcement.
