If we want them at the closest location (Omaha) they will need to be a 8 or 9 because It sounds like if Baylor and KU are 1 seeds they will be put in Omaha

I really could care less about UNI ever getting ranked. Personally, I think it would help keep the chip on their shoulder. Ideally, I'd love for them to win out. They would probably be in the low 20's in the NET if they did. They'd be in line for something in the #6 or #7 seed area.

For me, #6 is the perfect spot to land. It would keep you completely away from the #1 seed as long as possible and it would keep you away from the #2 until the Sweet Sixteen. If they would end up as a #7, that would be okay with me also. Just stay out of that #5 spot, where you end up with those other ultra tough mid-majors who are just as hungry as we are.

USA Today has UNI a 10 in Cleveland and Iowa as a 6 in Cleveland. That would be a good time.

Tier 4: Somebody might do it, but everybody here had better get better

    34. Northern Iowa Panthers

At 22-3 after Wednesday night's win over Illinois State, UNI is atop the Missouri Valley Conference and not going anywhere anytime soon. Sophomore guard AJ Green is a candidate to go for 20-plus every time he hits the floor, and has combined for 61 points (including 11-of-18 from 3) in the Panthers' two most recent victories.

Illinois plays at Rutgers Saturday. If they win that, they probably drop a couple of spots. If they lose, they will certainly drop out.

Purdue losing helps a ton, the basic argument they've had was "best team in the country when they play at home, not quite top 100 on the road, so let's see what they look like in a neutral site." Now they lost at home...for the third time. They ought to be out. In a just world, they'd be out a while ago. But they should be outside unless they beat Maryland on the road or something.

On Bubble Watch on a Tuesday night with no MVC action:
    • NET 41 Mississippi State loses by 25 @ Ole Miss. Good.
    • NET 38 Arkansas loses by 21 @ Tennessee. Good.
    • NET 37 UNI
    • NET 36 Rhode Island loses by 14 @ Dayton. Good, but likely not to fall much since Dayton is top 10.
    • NET 34 Illinois (and #22 AP) loses by 1 vs. Michigan State. Good? Spartans not ranked but 11 NET, and let’s be honest they aren’t going to leave them out no matter what happens so may as well drop Illinois down.
    • NET 27 LSU (and #25 AP) wins by 4 vs. Missouri at home. Would have been nice if Mizzou could have held on to an 8 point second half lead.
    • NET 26 Purdue loses by 12. vs. Penn State. Good.
Overall a pretty good night. May not reap immediate rewards in the rankings, but the more others surrounding us lose, the more comparable we remain if we happen to stumble once over the next few games.

And LSU barely won a home game against a bad team.

If you need more evidence of how flawed the rankings are, Petaros had an interesting stat today. Iowa’s best conference road win is against a team that would be ranked 7th in MVC NET.

Not saying we should be in over them but it shows you literally just need to win home games if you are a P5 and playing on the road is hard.

Interesting. Gotta figure that a Q2 loss wouldn't drop UNI all the way out at this point. Team is definitely in control of their own destiny even outside of Arch Madness. Just keep winning.

why wouldn't they ever do that?
Because they will want to give a P5 team more of a home advantage than that. So they would bring in a 12 seed from Vermont and send us to Portland.
