Looking at that tweet it was from 2 days ago….

that really is a pathetic look coming from the family. If that is how the family is (and I know ppl have talked about that’s how they are) then maybe this is all for the best. That type of attitude doesn’t seem to be the type of environment Jake has tried to build in CF.

just because one kid made it in a power conference for athletics doesn’t mean they’re both talented enough to do it. Sure seems like the family seems slighted by the fact Noah isn’t on that same level. Tweeting at a coach about portal stuff is pretty laughable tho.

    • He will never have the green light he has now offensively. It’s a shame.

      • I've kind of changed my view on the Portal. It just seems to me for every kid who moves up there is another that has decided "that they want to play closer to home". I'm not saying I am excited about it but A coaching staff needs to be good at getting kids that are moving the other direction.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Isn't it better to be a big fish in a small pond than a minnow in an ocean?

          • Carter is a good player, but has no chance to make the NBA. He needs more improvement just to play in Europe. I hope he leaves this time. The world keeps spinning and we don't need him. At best he's the 7th player for a second division P6 school. Yeah, you go right ahead and get lost. You're not getting to the Dance or seeing Lebron in his last season, kid.

            • We're going to be fine. Even without Green, Phyfe, and Carter we're still 5th or 6th, next season. Yeah, it's one season to rebuilt and finish in the middle of the pack, but what ever.

Can you give me your full breakdown of every other roster in the Valley to come up with a random placement? Can I also have access to your crystal ball to know what everybody looks like on November 1?

That's even with two open rides to fill in 23-24. Yeah, we probably need a least one transfer this season, but as you can see the world keeps going.

Great and often overlooked point. The portal can be good (even better) for mid majors. There are always guys looking to go to a smaller school after not seeing the court on a P5. You’re right that we need to figure out how to snag them when they are looking for “somewhere closer to home” (ie somewhere where they will actually play).

ISU has perfected the portal. Starting with Hoiberg, they have had tons of transfers each year. I think this year’s sweet 16 team is mostly transfers. So it clearly works and we need to get with the times. We don’t need a team of homegrown Cedar Falls kids who are going to stay four years. Go out there and get a project player and see how it works.

On the subject oh Noah, I’m honestly disappointed because he’s important to the team, he’s good (if inconsistent), and I loved the energy he brought to the game. I’m going to miss that. With all that said, I think he’s making a mistake. We could very easily win the Valley next year with him and Green back. We would be one transfer big away from an ncaa run. And he’s going to give that up for what?

It’s not about playing time, because he could play the whole game if he wants. It can’t be about NBA exposure, because he is nowhere near that level. Maybe it’s wanting to play in the tournament and having a better chance at a P5. But that’s not guaranteed either. His absolute ceiling is 5-10 min/game at somewhere like Missouri—a P5 but not one that takes basketball seriously. What a weird trade off.

I’m not mad at him or resentful and I hope the kid finds what he’s looking for, but it just makes no sense to me from a purely cost/benefit analysis. He’s giving up a lot for a pipe dream.

                      • Lol I don't think every tempering or cooling of their expectations for next year based on information we've received is that out of bounds.

After we got almost every bounce of the ball to go our way last offseason, we knew this was the season to compete, and for better or worse it was a competitive team.

Now there's a good chance we don't have 5 rotation players, 4 starters, and our 3 top scorers from last year. That isn't easy to replace, so I think it would be an injustice to the team to EXPECT them to do better than this season.

Now, you're correct. We don't have a crystal ball. Things could fall our way. We could get an impact transfer or 2 to start right away, Duax turns out to be ahead of schedule, and Campbell is a steal from the get go and we don't have the flat start we did this year.

I will always look forward to seeing the team and how the new pieces and the current pieces grow together. I just think it's fine to be realistic with expectations and hope for the best.

                        • This tweet represents his dad's attitude about his son's ability perfectly. He sits about 10 rows behind the players bench at home games and constantly tries to coach his son from his seat. He continually would holler at the UNI players to "run the offense" by which he meant, get the ball out of AJ's hand and get it to Noah. Late in the Loyola home game there was a whistle to stop play and as the crowd became very quiet, everyone in our section could here Joe hollering at Jake and the players. Jake turned around and stared directly at Joe, which shut him up for the rest of the game. Joe's influence to get Noah in the transfer portal is an unsurprising, but disappointing, development.

If that’s true, maybe it’s best that he move on. That can create a toxic environment for the team, but I bet it’s hard on Noah too because his dad is inflating his expectations.

                              • The best part of all of this is Gary Rima tweeting saying he doesn’t think he is BIG10 quality of a player. I love that he can say whatever he wants now. I laughed out loud reading the tweet because he’s never been that honest.

also one of the deery’s tweeted back at Rima saying basically next man up and if they don’t want to be here let’s find someone who does. Noah’s dad commented back saying he loved his time and the deery said then why is he transferring…..:no response. It’s getting humorous and a little sloppy from a optics standpoint from the carter camp. Noah is going to lose big. He will never see meaningful minutes at a decent p5 program. If his dads trying to sell him to a coach on Twitter it almost seems like they don’t even have a plan. Who are they even hoping take a chance on him?
