Florida has a fantastic sales pitch if going somewhere with proven ability to win nationally is important to him. In the last 15 years or so, they’ve won back to back national championships, and three straight elite eight appearances and a couple of other final fours which don’t include the two NCs. Florida also has a huge following and an educated guess says there’s tons of NIL money available.

I know a Grad Assistant for Arkansas and he said Noah would be a good bench piece for them. Come off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game. I am assuming they like his ability to hit 3's. They struggled to score last year.

I guess they had a good shooting day when they played us...Originally posted by Panther_Buck View PostI know a Grad Assistant for Arkansas and he said Noah would be a good bench piece for them. That was 4 head coaches ago and they're headed for a complete rebuild with a guy that's never coached outside of the West Coast (I do think Golden is good enough to adapt though)Originally posted by SteinPizza View Post

There's lots of minutes available. They won't be in any position to win at a high level while Noah has eligibility.

All of that was actually two coaches ago since Billy Donovan left and came back. They’ve made an elite eight appearance as recently as 2017, with the guy after Donovan. Bottom line, that’s a school with resources in a really talent rich part of the country, and it’s proven you can win there. It would be interesting to see what Noah can do against the SEC, but that interest doesn’t mean I think he’ll make 1st team all conference.Originally posted by BCPanther View Post

Why belittle his choices? People in general may not like the way his family handled this, I get that. I definitely think college free agency is bull****, but if the individual player all of a sudden has that autonomy, take advantage of it if you’re so inclined and have the ability. Several schools obviously think he does. Much of the negative stuff against Noah here sounds like sour grapes, nothing more.

Yup, Mizzou being a dumpster fire of a school/basketball program is nothing against Noah.Originally posted by clenz View PostNothing Brett said is belittling his choices. It's a valid critique of the program overall, it just happens to be a school that is on Noah's list. It's not a "because it's on Noah's list" issue.

Exactly what I figured. If he really wants to look at his basketball future after college, what's going to help him get more looks - playing 10-15 minutes a night in the SEC or being a POY contender in the Valley? The answer seems pretty obvious to me.Originally posted by Panther_Buck View PostI know a Grad Assistant for Arkansas and he said Noah would be a good bench piece for them. I think we all need a reality check. We all want AJ to succeed ...but the truth is he is not good enough to play in NBA...will struggle and not play long over seas. He turns the ball over WAY too much and not athletic enough to guard. He is known as a shooter and thst too has been inconsistent....thats the truth....but many don't want to admit...

1. I think you are undervaluing AJs ability, we had such high expectations for him that possibly impossible to meet.
2. If we would make the NBA he would never be the focal part of an offense like he is now which would greatly reduce his turnovers. He will be a spot up shooter, and successful at that.
3. I agree he isn't a good defender, but there are worse defenders then he is.

Any rumors as to the activity we might having in the portal?
I check here every other day or so to see if there is any chatter about any transfers we might be getting, but all the discussion is about Carter. I personally don't care that much where Carter goes. I wish him luck, but I am more curious about players that will be on our team next year.
Has anyone heard if we are active at all? Or are we maybe staying put until we know more about Austin and AJ?

I feel like at this point with AJ, he's either going pro or coming back. Seems like he'd be in the portal already if he was going to go that way. Alright now that I've said that, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the portal tomorrow.Originally posted by MVCBeat View PostAny rumors as to the activity we might having in the portal?

Agreed on both. Good NBA teams have two types of players. 1)Stud playmakers who are All Star level (and 1 or 2 who are HoF level on a championship team), and 2) role players filling a variety of roles. If AJ ever makes a roster, it will be as 2. Nothing wrong with that, since the role players are usually elite at 1 or 2 niche things that distance them from your typical really good college player who ends up selling insurance, etc. Kyle Korver is a classic example of this as a spot up three point specialist with a really quick release. That’s flat out why he’s in the league. I watched a bunch of Bulls games when he was there. If AJ makes it, it will be as a Korver type.Originally posted by achrist70 View Post

Korver is another good example of 3 above. He was always the defensive weak link when on the floor, and teams would usually look to exploit him. Not because of lack of effort or will. It was because of lack of athleticism compared to the 4 other elite athletes on the floor with him. Decent chance AJ would be that guy too. That’s not a negative on either AJ or Korver, just reality when comparing them to elite players at that level.
Matt Thomas is another potential example, who like other Iowa State guys from his teams has bounced up and down between the G league and the back of the Bulls roster. I’m guessing the value add he’d bring is 3 point shooting but I don’t think he plays much in NBA games. If Matt Thomas can make a roster, even briefly, then AJ stands a punchers chance if he can perfect his 3 point shooting enough to stand out from others.Last edited by SteinPizza; 03-31-2022, 05:13 PM.
