Drake night is going to be a thing again and all is right with the world. That's not a very good basketball team but Henderson will be fine there in a couple years

How did Drake get in an MTE with beatable P5s? Riding the high of the last few years, I imagine?

Drake ended up beating Georgia Tech, but I think GT is likely the worst team in the ACC not named Boston College this year so who knows yet how big of a win that is for them.

Belmont crushed the C of C team that Drake also beat on the road.

I'm waiting to see Belmont actually play someone of significance. The best win they have is against Toledo at 155 KenPom. Richmond will be a better gauge of whether Belmont is for real or not. It's easy to look good against garbage D1s and non-D1s. However, props to them at least for winning all of their games. That's super helpful.

First NET rankings out for the season. Some interesting things to note from it.

MVC is ranked 9th in the conference NET.

Team rankings aren't too bad this year, honestly. Here's where things stand (NET in BOLD)

                  Belmont 0-0 0.000 - 7-0 1.000 35
                  Northern Iowa 0-0 0.000 - 6-1 0.857 73
                  Illinois State 0-0 0.000 - 5-2 0.714 105
                  Valparaiso 0-0 0.000 - 5-2 0.714 228
                  Murray State 0-0 0.000 - 5-3 0.625 93
                  Bradley 0-0 0.000 - 4-4 0.500 135
                  Drake 0-0 0.000 - 3-3 0.500 153
                  UIC 0-0 0.000 - 3-3 0.500 196
                  Southern Illinois 0-0 0.000 - 3-4 0.429 181
                  Indiana State 0-0 0.000 - 3-4 0.429 205
                  Evansville 0-0 0.000 - 1-5 0.167 317
Evansville is a real drag on the conference this year. But man. Missouri St and Loyola are TERRIBLE in the rankings. 297 and 354, respectively.

Of note, Tulsa is 27! and St Mary's is 29. Evansville is disgusting, but Loyola is absolutely abysmal. Valentine might not finish the year.

                    • The four teams ranked 105 or higher are the four I think have a legit shot to win the MVC this year. I also think it could be one of those years where the winner has 4 or 5 losses.

Honestly those rankings look pretty good. I'd put us, Belmont, Murray and Illinois State in the top four. I'd put Bradley and Drake in the next tier. I'd put SIU, UIC, Indiana State and Valpo in the next tier. And I'd put UE in their own "cut below" tier. And the NET seems to agree with me.

                      • Also worth noting that 5 of our 6 wins are Q4. By that measure, Belmont has a tougher schedule than us.

Murray has the only Q1 win in the league, neutral over GW. And two of their 3 losses are Q1.

Would very much love for Tulsa to shock the world and go like 16-2 in the AAC. A close loss against the 100th ranked team is a lot different than a close loss against the 27th ranked team.

South Dakota State and UC Irvine both have a good chance at moving up a quadrant.

                              • UIC just lost to 0-8 SWAC Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Almost erases what was a pretty good night for the league last night.
