    • I have favorites and I won't go into that but I'm a hard no on Jay Johnson.

Late 50s. Job hopper. Never seems to leave anywhere better than he found it. Has been in charge of some really bad offenses lately.

Probably not a hire until the middle of next week from what I've put together.

Roehl is a hard pass simply for the fact he currently coaches and should be paying attention elsewhere until after Iowa Stat is done with their season. So he shouldn’t interview until January probably.
Good job, you figured it out

Now how about this list you seem to know about.

        • Drinkall would be a great get, even if for a couple years.

          • I love Chinander as a candidate. He’s young, he has incredible experience at a bunch of places, and he grew up in the area.

              The names I know about?

Out of anyone on this forum for having information I’m not on the list of people you want to question. I’d bet the people you get information from had it verified or run through the same group.

I didn’t list any names because I had a very strong “feeling” Cole was working on his list and truly vetting all of his sources as to not blow his sources or the search in general. So I was more than happy to wait for his article.

I’ll just say the fact that Cole went public with one of those names is quite telling for me.

              • You know I wasn't that excited when I first saw Joe Woodley from GV on that list.

But then I saw he's 68-5 as a head coach there. Goddam.

                    - Bryce Paup
                    - GV Head Coach Joe Woodley
                    - Army OC Matt Drinkall
                    - South Carolina WR coach Mike Furrey
                    - Wyoming OC Jay Johnson
                    - Boise State Assistant Head coach Erik Chinander

I actually think this is a pretty impressive list, and I'm very curious to see where this goes. Four of them obviously have UNI ties.

I think out of that list Chinander, Woodley, and Drinkall jump out to me, but I'm pretty open. I just want someone eager to embrace the new normal with an athletics office ready to support them.
My man Drinkall is on here! Hope he gets it. Went to high school with him and I have been following his career. He would be a great get. Definitely some other good names on there though.

Drake's coach is at the level he should be at.

                        • I don’t know how seriously Mike Furrey is being considered, but he’s putting together an interesting resume. Played several years in the NFL, including switching sides and playing DB one year. He has NFL coaching experience, and currently coaching WRs in the SEC at 18th ranked, 8-3 South Carolina. Has some successful HC experience in DII as well. Seems like he’ll climb the ladder at some point.

                          • Anyone know what the roster limit for FCS schools is next season?

FBS schools have to manage to 105 which is about 25 less than what the average team carries.

Going to create an interesting dynamic as UNI goes through a coaching staff change...and likely some roster churn.

Will be a lot of kids looking for a place to play. May also reduce the number of kids going into portal knowing it's harder to find a new home (it was already harder than many thought) given the number of seats are limited.

Winning is more fun than losing.

I have a kid in the early stages of being recruited. A lot of FCS schools trying to figure out how to navigate changes.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Furrey does have some head coaching experience at Limestone, but his overall record was right around .500. Having said that, Limestone total record is well under .500 so maybe it's more impressive than you might think at first glance.

Fun Fact: Limestone's current head coach is another former NFL WR - Jerricho Cotchery.
