  • How do we get rid of Jake?

This style of basketball is very frustrating to watch, and to lose to that team is an embarrassment. Their personnel was awful besides tunnel. Things that are frustrating to me and i will assume others when watching these games...

subbing- can we let the players get into a rhythm and play more than 3-6 min at a time? You dont have to empty your bench and play everyone right?

offense- does jake know that there are set plays that you can run against a zone? All ive seen this year is passing around the perimeter and forced shots with 1-6 seconds on the Shot clock. he finally drew up a high pick today to get someone in the lane, finally. Its basic knowledge that if you are going to throw it around the perimeter teach your players to be a threat. We catch the ball 3-5 feet outside the 3 pt line? no one needs to guard us out there, cmon. Inbounds plays? Has jake heard of them? I know that throwing a lob to midcourt is crazy effective, but i know there are plays that CAN be designed to score off inbounds passes.

Defense- why would we stay in a zone when a team is lighting up the scoreboard, any coach in their right mind comes out of the zone today after 10 mins gone by. Can we box out, numerous times i saw our guards watching at the top of the key, WHAT GOES ON AT PRACTICE? IS THERE ANY TEACHING? or can they just not understand it because jake is clapping too loud? This is a team that has not had basic concepts drilled into their head and that is a coaches fault.

JAKE IS OUT OF HIS LEAGUE AND ITS SAD THAT WE WILL BE TOO POOR OF AN INSTITUTION TO BUY HIM AND HIS RIDICULOUS CONTRACT OUT. HE IS IN OVER HIS HEAD AND WEVE ALL SAID IT FOR 3 YEARS NOW, ITS ONLY GETTING WORSE.....

its okay be critical of someone after it is clear that they are failing. You do not have to be supportive 100 percent of the time and i am sure the majority of uni fans are on my side. You cant say you enjoy going to games to watch our players make mistakes and not have our head coach turn those mistakes into teaching moments? He would rather clap and hope that magically clapping will make all his coaching blunders disappear

Do you know when he starts clapping it is mostly the beginning of possessions on Defense, not after one of our players makes a mistake.

I know right now it doesn't look like he can be a great in game coach, but what about a coach who has his team down 21 in the first half then makes adjustments so the team can come back and tie the game? That was a pretty good job of coaching today in my opinion because the first half the team looked like they didn't want to play today or just thought due to their record ISU was gonna roll over for them.

If you want to get rid of him do you have someone in mind that should be the coach to replace him or are you just concerned because right now we are having a bad year, and are overracting?

I am not supporting him 100 percent all the time. This is one bad year after winning 18 games two years in a row. So I give him a little bit of a pass. If we are bad next year maybe we need to believe this is a trend, but not right now.

Not true. Jacobson claps ALL the time. There's no pattern to it. It's all the time.

I hate it when people throw this question out there. It's a copout if you ask me. There are PLENTY of coaches in the country that would be willing to come to UNI and coach. Just because people on here couldn't name a few off the top of their head, doesn't mean that we are stuck with Jacobson as a coach. He may be a heck of a nice guy. He may be able to recruit decent talent. But if he can't coach, he can't coach. We definitely do not need to feel as if we're STUCK with him.

In Jacobson's first season we went from 3 straight seasons with 20+ wins to 18. In his second season we had 17 (in the eyes of the NCAA tournament selection committee). Any less than that this year, and it's time to seriously question his future at our university.

ive always supported jake but i cant help but think that we have the talent to win the valley next year if we could bring in a decent coach.

I doubt we would have the talent here next year if we bring in another coach. I'm guessing most of the recruits and some of the current players would leave. Believe me, I'd like to see something else, but, you should probably expect a few down years after the change. Not sure what the answer is...

Troll, to say "their personnel was awful besides tunnell" is off base. Did you watch the same game? Harry Marshall is their best player, evident by his decision-making and 23 points yesterday. He's one of the top 10 to 12 players in this league.

Re: How do we get rid of Jake?

For what it's worth, here's my take:
If UNI finishes last in the Valley, I could see some changes at season's end.

If UNI does better than that but doesn't make postseason play, Jake will get another season. However, I think for him to keep his job beyond that he'll need some type of postseason trip in 2009-10 -- especially with everyone back (except Brown) and the addition of Marc Sonnen. That said, it won't be easy with a demanding non-conference schedule and a lot of other teams in the league being young like Southern, Bradley and Wichita State.

Granted, Jake has won 18 games the past two years -- the best start ever by a UNI coach in his first two years. The problem is, much of the fan base and all the momentum obtained from those three NCAA tournament trips is about gone. With an athletic program struggling financially, how long can Dannen tolerate that?

Don't you think if we continue to lose games even our wonderful current coach is going to have a tough time recruiting in the future? And, our current coach has already had "some" current players leave.

Valid points. I was just pointing out that a coaching transition usually leads to players leaving and that we shouldn't expect to be vying for the conference title the first year after the coach changes.

Merely playing devil's advocate here, nothing more...

If Jake's coaching ability got us back from a 24-point deficit, what got us there in the first place?

'We' don't need to do anything, Jake is doing it all on his own.

Going to need $5 tickets for me to drag my family to see this trainwreck anymore. It is boring and it is bad.

Are you serious? First off, we shouldn't have even been down 21 at the end of the first half. We let a team that hasen't won 1 road game and has an RPI of 200-250 (sorry don't know the exact RPI but it's around there) go up 21 points on us in the first half.

I'm not saying we should have been winning at the end of the first half, but you would think that if we were to be down at half to this type of team, it would only be in the single digits.

Second, what was the pre-game preperation for this game? IT'S THE FIRST FREAKING CONFERENCE GAME OF THE SEASON!!! HOW CAN YOU NOT GET YOUR TEAM UP FOR THIS, ESPICALLY AT HOME??? ESPECALLY WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING ISU (200-250 RPI)??? Before this game, UNI had only played one game in two weeks so obviously they wern't tired.

It just seems that Jacobson has a trend of win big over a weak team, and then the next game on the schedule, lose horribly and when I say lose horribly, it makes you want to puke. And this game was no different. The style of play in the second half didn't make me want to vomit, but the first half and losing to ISU (200-250 RPI) sure did.

Third, when you play a team this bad, and if you say to me, "Well they didn't look bad when they played us", let's just think about that statement for a second. How come every team that seems to not shoot the three well against other teams, always shoots the three like they invented the three point shot against us? And don't tell me that ISU (200-250 RPI) is a good three point shooting team because they arn't. Maybe it's our defense???

These are the points that I present to you and everyone on this board. Don't just read the words, actually put some meaning behind them and then respond with a coherent thought.
