I have said this before, this team will play on Thursday night at Arch Madness, this team is average at best, with a terrible, un-prepared coach.

Guess what? I will be there, just because I don't like Jake and don't think this team will win 7 Valley games doesn't mean that I don't "support" UNI athletics. I have already bought my all sesssion pass, I have already booked my hotel rooms, I have booked a room for Thursday night and have already posted my semifinal and finals tickets up for sale on stub hub.

This does not make me "anti UNI" or a "whiny Iowa fan", it makes me realistic. I have made one prediction about this team that has already came true "this team will be 3-2 at best after the past 5 game stretch", just accept it, support it, ***** about it, whatever you do, don't give up being a fan.
Good for you and thanks for the uplifting support.

Jeg is correct with most of that.

Sorry, but that was a dumb post. Your defense of Jake is beginning to take you down a dark and lonely path, I'm afraid. If you think "entertainment" and butts in seats isn't important, I need only remind you that this is the lone revenue sport at UNI. If that changes...

And for the record, I am a season ticket holder and will still and always support the Panthers. Win or lose, we ALWAYS stand at the end of game for the fight song.

I think the goal is to win games. You are right they do have other responsibilities. I think personally it would be tough to be a college athlete. Sports plus school plus social life. Add to that the internet boards, criticism, pressure. Good point it would be very tough.

Of course most schools cheat and make the school, social life part easier. Perhaps they pay a little with more criticism. They should pay with expulsion IMO. But they don't.

I think UNI runs a very clean program where the athletes are expected to find there own girlfriends, parties, limits, classes, grades, etc. Although I think they have tutors. (which seems fine to me).

But that is college basketball. The job of the d-1 college basketball coach is to bring in players who can win games while doing all that other stuff. Not easy then again no one said it would be.

I hope that this team proves all the naysayers so wrong. It comes down to execution on the court and there are positive signs that the players are getting tougher. The fire Jake threads start after every loss, what happens after the wins? Especially after a hard fought win at SIU. LET"S GET BEHIND THIS TEAM AND ENCOURAGE THEM, RATHER THAN CAST DOUBT!

Re: How do we get rid of Jake?

When the players fail to execute blame the Coach....

When the Players execute and Win, Boys played Great.....

This seems to happen in every sport....Examples

I really find it amusing all the threads that are targeted at fire this guy and fire that guy, at any level.

                      Coaches, COACH and Players, PLAY

Very few seem to ever hold the players accountable for the success or failure of the final product.

*Vikings couple weeks ago 4 killer turnovers, Childress had none....?
*Denver has had 4 chances to clinch, -12 in turnovers last 4 weeks, fire Shanahan...
*Favre 21 tds/22 int (season), certainly Mangini should take the ball away from him....?

I coud go on and on, Basketball, Baseball, any sport it is no different. My point is that they are all team sports, and while the Head Coach is a very important piece of the team (leader), he is just that one piece.

When does any of the fans ever hold the player accountable for his poor execution of the Coaches plan....?

I must have missed all the Cut TO threads because Dallas missed the playoffs.....
Or Cut Brett Favre because he threw more Interceptions than TD's this year......?

P.S. I have never read posts from such a bunch of whiney fans in my life....18 wins two years in a row (best start for a UNI coach ever)

I've taken a lot of heat for this in the past, actually. I don't discriminate in my criticism; I give it where it's due.

In the case of the Indiana State game, I truly believe that was a dual effort both in the falling behind and the subsequent rally. In the case of a great win in Carbondale (I don't care if SIU is down... SUCK IT!), it was a great game plan combined with a gutsy performance.

Speaking of which, it seems like we've always had this thing for being prepared for SIU, and that goes back to the days of Mac.

jegbomb52......I love your passion and support of Panther athletics and appreciated the contributions you made as a UNI student-athlete.......with that said....I think you couldn't be more wrong when you state that "this team is average at best, with a terrible, un-prepared coach". I have sat in on practices, shoot arounds, team meetings and film study, looked at written game plans that the players are given and the last thing this team is...is un-prepared. The game planning for the most part game in and game out is solid and is a plan that if executed gives UNI the best chance to win and that is what a game plan is all about. Certainly there are times the game plan didn't work or the players just for whatever reason didn't execute the plan well enough to win but to say that UNI's coach is terrible and un-prepared just is NOT true!! You certainly are entitled to your opinion but if you were able to follow this team and coaching staff around for 1 week and watch the prep and planning that goes into a game I think you would change your opinion. Has Jake made some coaching mistakes in his first 2 and 1/2 years as a head coach, I think he would even say yes and actually has done that on a number of post game interviews. Veteran coaches of 20 plus years still make some mistakes or wish they would have done things differently in a certain situation or game but in no way does that mean they are terrible or un-prepared. I hope you will support this coaching staff and players the way you would have wanted Panther fans to support YOUR coaching staff and teammates when you were a student-athlete at UNI.
As far as this team playing on Thursday at the MVC tourney.......we will have to wait and see but I wouldn't go betting the farm on it.....or your UNI letter jacket!

Also...as far as coaching....Our $150,000 a year head coach just beat a guy making $750,000 a year on his home floor! I think we are getting a pretty good deal...wouldn't you agree?!?

It's all about the Execution of the Proper Game Plan = WINS

Both components working together = Team Effort
