Unless you are not getting paid in gold. It will be interesting to see what our take will be versus what we would usually get out of a home game.

As to the statement that "this gives everyone from around the state a chance to come see the games". Ask people from Davenport and CR/Iowa City how they feel about that statement. This game really shifts the games away from fan bases (except for Drake and Iowa State). This will obviously be a weekend event - interesting to see how all the schools fill in that Tuesday slot in their schedules with a game that will generate even 50% of the revenue.
It's about time we make the McLeod LOUD!

This makes me so angry. What a joke.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Agreed Very Disappointing, I will definetly NOT be purchasing tickets to this. Would have rather gone on the road to wisconsin/kansas/anyone else than play something like this hogwash. Troy Dannen, congragulations you have just ERASED all work done by UNI athletes in proving that we are no longer the "little brother" by kowtowing to Iowa and ISU(though I think this was more Iowa) Congrats! Go back to girls athletics, I have NEVER been more disappointed in our AD, what an absolute kowtowing to Iowa.

Mr. Dannen, I know you are new to this whole little brother/big brother thing, but we have worked to damn hard to let Iowa STILL push us around. We have proven that we can get good games against decent opponents(St. Marys/ODU) yes we had to travel for them, but guess what THEY are coming here next year, so next year set up a home-home with someone else.

          I am so disappointed.
Oh, and let me make this perfectly clear to you people: you go to UNI, NOT IOWA. The Hawkeyes and their fans do not give a crap if you remain "true to them" or some stupid self-fulfulling bullcrap like that.-OTP

Not to be a stickler but ODU was a bracket buster so they were kinda forced to come here

What was Dannen to do? Iowa/ISU has ALL of the leverage here. If he says "Play us home and home or don't play us at all," they simply say "OK, not at all" and move on.

Agreed. He was put between a rock and a hard place. Let me make myself clear. I hate this arrangement and would rather not play them at all than be forced into this. But... I don't blame Dannen.

I guess this will get me to Des Moines at least once a year. better than not playing at all and hopefully they split the gate so each team gets an equal share. is there a company sponsoring this event yet? Hopefully there will be one and they will cover the arena cost and maybe pay for the teams travel to the tournament. That way it will be all profit for the schools. Just an idea. I think it will be a well attended event, alot of fans of all 4 schools in the des moines metro.

This. He didn't have any cards to play. Now four years down the road, there might be something that we can do/say, but as the situation currently is, there was not another option available to us.

We could try and grab another school, but we are a fairly high mid major and most schools would not want to play a fairly high mid major for fear they might actually loose.

It sounds like it was the best short term solution he could come up with. I don't hold anything against him for how this situation boiled down.

They said the sponsorship is TBD. I'm guessing there will be one, but I'm not sure what all they would cover.

I've got $1000 for the title sponsor slot - it will be named the "Fran has Tourrets Classic"

If UNI beats Iowa and Iowa state twice each I guarantee this will be over in four years and they won't schedule us at all anymore. Probably won't happen because they are improving, but I'm just saying.

I know I am an ISU fan and therefore part of the "problem", so to speak, but I sent this email to Pollard and will be encouraging my fellow Clone fans to do the same.

                              Mr. Pollard,
My wife Rachel and I have been season ticket holders for a few years now for Men’s basketball and Football. Following Cyclone athletics has really become a big part of our lives post college and it’s something we’re looking forward to enjoying as we raise our family in central Iowa.

I understand the purpose of the Big 4 Classic and I am excited to watch the games in Des Moines next year. However, I do feel like playing all the in-state teams is a unique experience in Iowa and those are some of the games that season ticket holders and fans in the state in general really look forward to each year.

That said I think the format of the tournament creates a unique opportunity for us to continue playing all of the teams. Since we’ll be playing Drake in Des Moines the next two years, scheduling home and away games with UNI for the ’13 and ’15 seasons, and Drake for the ’14 and ’16 seasons seems possible and sensible. I hope those who are responsible for scheduling for our teams will consider those options for the program because all of our schools are good programs and offer ample opportunities to generate excitement for our fans and prepare the athletes for Big 12 conference play.

Thank you for your time and go Cyclones!

you are crazy if you think this is bad. is it as good as the old setup? no, but that was a gift setup and we have to play the hand we were dealt. some of these over the top reactions are embarrassing.
