The traffic was ****ing stupid when we were there. Almost got rear-ended by a semi. It was nuts. He was just going to plow people out of the way.
Wasn't there an article about this in the Des Moines Register a month ago. About how the Wells Fargo is a nice arena, but there are not enough hotels in the area? I thought that was one of the excuses the NCAA people were giving. Because I think Wells Fargo seats more than the Pit in New Mexico, Dayton's Arena, and I think one more place didn't hold as many.

When I was younger we stayed up in Minneapolis the year ISU made the Elite 8 and I think it was UCLA stayed in the same Hotel as we were and we were all the way out in Eden Prairie.

So i do not buy that excuse that's there not enough hotels close enough to Wells Fargo. There are plenty in West Des Moines and along I-80. Just cause a team might have to drive 10-15 minutes to get to the arena should be no excuse.

on another note didn't the Wells Fargo get a bad review or the Des Moines area from the womens tournament?? Wasn't the Baylor Womens team quoted as saying it was bad?? I thought i read that somewhere.

heard that too. Dayton's hotels were a ways away. Hell the more I reflect the more I hate Dayton and the ******* Ohio State fan screaming at us until he was red in the face to "sit down" during the UNI game.

          "What's the problem, sir?" me
"YOU GUYS ARE STANDING! I CAN'T SEE THE GAME!"
          "Our team is playing."
"YOU HAVE MORE OF A RIGHT TO SEE THE GAME THAN I DO?"
"Yeah, our team is playing. That's what you do when your team is playing. I don't see anyone else complaining. Sir, you upset?"\
"No, not at all, I can see fine." Other polite fan.
"YOU HAVE BAD FANS. I'M CHEERING FOR YOU TO LOSE."

I've been to watch a basketball game in WFA 4 times and each time left me feeling like it was a crap arena for basketball. Just my opinion obviously.

I've watched a basketball game there 5 times and thought it was brilliant.

Now that we're comparing opinions on Jiffy-Pop... my experience is that it is an average basketball arena. Not great, but not horrible either.

Granted, I've always sat in the lower bowl or suites so I can't speak to the nosebleeds.

People in their 20-30's can see the game a lot better from the nosebleed seats than people in their 50-60's. In a happy coincidence people in their 50-60's on average can more afford to pay the higher ticket prices. It works out pretty good.

Besides the highest attendance rate in comparison to all other venues, the red carpet the CVB laid out, don't know what else DSM could have done.

I assume you mean the city Des Moines? The city of Des Moines had nothing to do with the construction of WFA. Polk county built, owns, and operates WFA and the Iowa Events Center. There was a lawsuit that delayed the building of the arena because some thing they get to vote on everything an elected body wants to do. That pressure caused some cost cutting that makes the concourses boring and the 300 level seats fairly uncomfortable. Not to mention the incomplete seating levels in the south end. Make the 300 level symmetrical and 18,000 would be the capacity.

Des Moines got very good reviews from just about everybody involved with the womens regional tourney, NCAA officials, players, coaches, fans. The only negative comments I heard were from Tennessee players who actually complained that there was nothing in Dsm but barns, cows, and corn, or something like that. Wtf? apparently they never ventured outside of their own closed minds while here.

As for the WFA, it's adequate to host the mens tourney, and so are the hotels. You just have to pay your dues and work your way up the food chain nowdays. That's what dsm is doing with all the other sports we have hosted and the womens tourney. Look for dsm to get a mens tourney withing a few years.

The WFA is also quite possibly the best thing Polk Co ever did. In just a little over a year I've seen the Eagles, Bob Seger, and next week Jimmy Buffett. No acts of that caliber had played in dsm for over 30 years before WFA was built.

Maybe its because all of those acts are 30 years past their prime.
