    No, the game was scheduled before Davis was named coach, and I don't think the powers that be at Iowa have any desire to call attention to the Davis family or bring the whole old story up to be rehashed.

      Yeah, you'll never see Iowa call attention to Tom Davis and you certainly won't see them honor Davis and his 1986-7 team with a big ceremony during a game.
      UNI isn't exactly splitting atoms in terms of academics. -run&blade

        I heard today that this game WAS in fact scheduled before keno was hired, but also that it had something to do with the football game.

              Tom Davis has been in Carver Hawkeye arena three times since his coaching days at Iowa ended, two as the Drake head coach and one to celebrate the 1986 team.

              I'm curious, what else has Iowa done to call attention to Tom Davis and his family?

                  Not sure. Silent earl just mentioned that iowa wouldnt want to draw attention to the daVis family when in fact they honored him at midcourt this past season.

                    Oh, christ, it was the 25th annivesary of the most talented team they've ever had or ever will have, and one of the most successful. If they could have pulled it without having the head coach of the team there they would have, but not quite possible.

                    Firing Davis was the stupidest thing the AD at Iowa has ever done and the program has been cursed ever since, similar to trading Babe or kicking out a goat. The good news for Iowa is those curses seem to lift after a hundred years or so. In the mean time they try to pretend it never happened and yes, they do not want to draw attention to Davis.

                          he was a pretty good coach, not great. he gets better as the years go by. his relationship with bowlsby was deteriorating and dr. tom wasnt exactly doing anything to help matters. the big issue arose when he was allowed to finish out his contract and the team far exceeded expectations. it really made the school look worse than they were.

                            As it becomes more clear what the realistic expectations for the Iowa basketball program should be.

                              of course, but i dont have any problem with the effort to make a push to the next level. i am guessing that UNI could run into a similar situation with coach farley in the coming years. great coach, but not quite able to fulfill expectations.
