Oh that made my day to read. I love having Fran in Iowa City. Never have to worry about cheering for Iowa while he is there.Originally posted by 95UNIGRAD View PostIf computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. Fran and Barta then announced they would not play at UNI again. Shortly thereafter, Hoiberg and Pollard followed suit, saying if Iowa wouldn't, ISU wouldn't either. That led to the Hy Vee "neutral court" Big 4 event in Des Moines for several years before both pulled out of it. Now they each have room on their schedules to play the Northern Illinois's and Northern Kentucky's of the world, but no room on their schedules to play Northern Iowa (or Drake).
Classy!

I recently was at an event where David Harris was speaking and the topic of playing Iowa and Iowa State in basketball was brought up. He said that ISU is willing to play UNI as a buy game...always in Ames but they are not interested in coming to Cedar Falls. He said that Iowa has not even stated they are willing to play us at all.

I'm obviously not a fan of it either but practically speaking, it's hard to argue with. They have no incentive, especially as the NCAA continues to intentionally weaken mid major teams chances. They stand to lose more now than ever before.Originally posted by Panther AC View PostFran and Barta then announced they would not play at UNI again. I don't think it's a "classy" issue, I think it's just cowardly.

Here's the thing, unarguably, it's a smart move for the Hawkeyes. It keeps a lot of attention away from a smaller in state that goes after some of the same recruits that they go after (because Fran can't recruit), and because the "shame" of losing to a school of UNI's stature is rough when you're Iowa. And with Fran at the helm, that loss can happen at any time. Plus, now you can schedule a couple more buy games now that you have two spaces cleared up on your schedule. It's a smart move. But while smart, it's also a b***h-a** move.
It can be both

This is all easier said than done, but for me the non-conference scheduling model should look like a couple P5 buy games on the road, a D3, an early season tournament, some kind of home and home with a team from a similar conference (MWC, A10, etc). What does that leave? About 4 games? Ideally those are buy games vs low majors that we play at home, but that probably isn’t in the budget. Maybe playing 2 buy games at P5 helps with that. How many games do we usually buy to bring into the McLeod?
