  • Didn't see that coming.

I'd always rather play than not play.

But this team might benefit from some time to regroup and hopefully get healthy (or healthier).

Hang in their fellas. It's a marathon not a sprint.
Winning is more fun than losing.

    • And AJ is undergoing surgery. Out the season.

      • Welp, when it rains it pours...

I'm starting to agree with Coach K on whether it's worth it to keep on playing. This season, across the whole country, not just for us, is turning into a rather predictable train wreck.

        • Not surprising that NCAAB has run into a lot of the COVID issues that we expected for all of the other sports. Many of those professional leagues have the resources to navigate the issues of COVID, especially when the NBA was only tested with playoffs and could do those in a bubble, and the NFL was still faced plenty of challenges despite only having to worry about 1 matchup between teams each week.

College basketball is a completely different beast that more or less hasn't undergone major changes, other than widespread testing, to avoid the challenges presented to it. Things are going to get really messy when conference play rolls around and these cancellations will likely have to be forfeits since the rescheduling will be hell

unless conferences just follow the big "ten" example of letting their favorite team be "champion" despite only playing half a schedule.

            • Silver lining to this is that any time we want to use the "we're a family at UNI" bit to recruits, we've got a very obvious, public example to go with.

I wouldn't be against it. Between COVID, our start, AJs injury and that 2 of my most hated teams are in the top 10... I certainly wouldn't object. In other news, Loyola cancelled their game to Duquesne this week due to COVID and instead is headed to Madison to take our place against Wisconsin.

And playing Richmond later in the week.

Porter should try an original idea

UNI AD David Harris confirmed this morning that the COVID-19 test that caused Green Bay to back out of today’s basketball game was a false positive. A tier 1 individual within UNI’s program had a positive antigen test on Thursday, but follow-up test results came back negative.
So what is the reason for canceling this week's games if there was not a confirmed case?

Incredible mental fatigue. 7 scholarship players. There was no reason to go get our teeth kicked in by Wisconsin and I'll guarantee Jake was the one that set up Loyola taking that game. As far as the Marshall game, meh, it's not like they're regional or we have any kind of plans on playing them long term.

Sounds like it was the right call. So who are the other players that are out? By my count, we would be without Green, Kimmons, Mar, and Anderson.

                          • Jake is giving the team the week off to go home to their families. Many of the players have not been home since June as they have been isolating in CF to avoid COVID issues. With Green done for the year, Kimmons on leave of absence to help his family deal with COVID, Phyfe spraining his ankle, Gauger dealing with patella tendinitis, freshman Ty Anderson unable to start season due to knee injury, etc. we are a hurting team right now. Hopefully NCAA will vote this week to grant immediate eligibility to all transfers so that Goanar Mar would be able to play when we open MVC season at home against Missouri State two days after Christmas.

Jake said Phyfe is out at least a week, hopefully he's good to go for conference play.

                              • I love our bench guys in their roles but Born, Berhow, Pickford, Heise, Carter and Betz playing 30+ minutes wouldn't have made that Wisconsin trip much fun
