The argument about the school affording to offer the extra scholarships is a legit one, but from the kid's perspective, I just can't imagine anyone wanting to "get on with their life" instead of playing a bonus season of D1college basketball.
We have had student-athletes in the very recent past that have chosen to 'get on with their life' instead of taking an extra year.

    • The gall of these kids, thinking that they can make their own choices about their own lives instead of doing what random internet strangers think that they should do.

      • ESPN league schedule and we maxed out with 5 appearances between ESPN2 and ESPNU.

Only surprise is that neither Bradley game was picked up. I'm guessing one or both of those go to CBS Sports Net.

        • Fan Attendance Update for December Non-Conference Games

Northern Iowa has determined that fans will not be allowed to attend the men's and women's basketball doubleheader on Dec. 12 or the Dec. 15 women's game against Iowa State. Parents of basketball student-athletes will be allowed to attend.

Bummer but not unexpected. One would think the MoSt games right after Christmas would probably be off limits too. Maybe by Bradley games 1/9-10 or Drake 1/21 the team will be able to have more voices than just parents cheering them on.

With Pickford and Berhow, it's only a 5th year for both - last year I believe we graduated three 5th year seniors, so it's not like it's uncommon, other than they may not have expected a 5th year 2 months ago. I believe Jake was asked about it in the preseason and (if I remember correctly) he said those conversations haven't been had yet, but if the guys want to come back for 1 more year, they'll make it work.

In other news, it's good to hear the Richmond game is a go. Hopefully we hear some news on AJ soon.
I agree with this point. Of course they should make the best decision for themselves, but if they stay they wouldn’t be delaying any more than had they been redshirted (which was what we thought would happen when Berhow transferred). They could really be part of something special next year (not to say that couldn’t still happen this year). Job market may be improved by 2022 as well once the economy improves. Wild card could be Pickford’s injury history - the aforementioned grind could be wearing especially hard on him.

              • Two appearances on CBS Sports Net. Drake here and at Illinois State.

Still really surprised neither Bradley game is on National TV.

                • 5 Appearances on the Valley TV package (FSN Midwest, NBC Sports Chicago). 14 of our 18 league games are league or national telecasts. I can't remember a year where the number was that high.

                  • Game tomorrow cancelled due to COVID. No mention on which team has it

                    Check that, not good...

GB Phoenix guys are staying home. Covid in Northern Iowa program cancels Saturday's game. Panthers on Badger schedule next week.

Sounds like it's us based on various tweets I saw on Twitter from some of the Wisconsin/GB beat writers

                          • The bad news? No game today. The good news? It was a false positive...

UNI AD David Harris confirmed this morning that the COVID-19 test that caused Green Bay to back out of today’s basketball game was a false positive. A tier 1 individual within UNI’s program had a positive antigen test on Thursday, but follow-up test results came back negative.

                            • Exactly, I'm looking at it with "no one's sick" goggles and it's all good. On to (a very beatable looking) Sconny.

                              • Welp. We're going on pause.

                                Wisconsin and Marshall canceled.

Next up: Missouri State on 12/27.
