So...box and one to nullify them completely?

    • Donovan Clay transferring from Valpo to Missouri St. Apparently it's up to Valpo to grant him immediate eligibility. Missouri St could be pretty good if he does get it.

      • Mid majors are going to become full on farm leagues for the P6s with the transfer rules changing.

Why must they grant it? I saw earlier (BC?) that the rule wasn’t quite final yet, but seems like a formality that everyone will be transferring without penalty.

This is the worst part if this trend continues. Even further consolidation of the top talent to the top teams. They can miss on a player coming out of HS and still have him for 2-3 years with far less barriers than before. Even if that player doesn’t come directly from your team, it could still impact you as the dominos fall with the affected team(s) looking to backfill their scholarship.

            • Liam Robbins follows his uncle (again) to a Vanderbilt. Kinda laughable at this point.

The upside is a lot of these power 5 guys that enter the portal will be available. There is enough people in the portal for about 100 rosters. There is going to be a lot of disappointed players when the music stops and it’s time to find an open chair.

Small schools are going to need to keep scholarships open longer than they ever have in the past to see if they can snag somebody.

in the end it probably hurts the D1 high school recruit the most. Their offers will dry up as teams refuse to commit until they look over the transfers.

                  • Genuine question: what is a "mid major," and as opposed to what or whom?

                    • Fan that is actually a good question, it used to mean conferences like the MVC, A10, Mountain West and American. Conferences right below the Power 5 (plus Big East). Unfortunately now it usually refers to all conferences other than the Power 5 plus Big East. Which is unfortunate because there is a big difference between a conference like the Missouri Valley or A10 and a conference like the SWAC or MEAC. I really think that this is one of the reasons why the Power 5 plus Big East along with Gonzaga have become so powerful, or maybe their power has led to this shift.

Thanks for the reply. I always hear the phrase, but have no reference point, up until now.

Trust me: as a wrestling fan first and foremost, that same problem is magnified to the nth degree in wrestling. It's essentially the Big 10, closely followed by the "Big 12," and little else to compete with those two.

I agree with this. I do think Atlantic 10 and Mountain West are starting to inch closer to the weird in between tier in terms of achievement and perception.

Those two are the hardest to really pin down. They're better at the top but they're both SO bad at the bottom. Plus the A10 gets the East Coast media shine...

As a golf fan, kind of like the U.S. Open then. I'd have to call it a mid-major, as it's a middle of the road favorite of mine.
