Daux, Campbell and Wolf are complete unknowns. I don't see Anderson, Kimmons, or Henry as a guys who are going to consistently score. I do think we'll be strong defensively, but man, it might get downright ugly offensively. Hopefully I'm wrong.
We know what kind of scorer Born is. Heise scored 2300 points in HS but hasn't ever been asked to do that here. Duax can get his own. Kimmons broke a bunch of Jake Sullivan's records at Tartan.

There is offensive talent there, it just didn't get to stick out because of the presence of AJ Green.

    • In hindsight, I’m betting that Chris Williams from KXNO knew a lot more about this yesterday than he let on (see my post a few back), given some of the cryptic things he said. If anyone wants to get some scoop on ISU’s chances of signing AJ, he’d be a good source of inside info. The only better source would be the Green family or TJ Otz. I’m sure they’ll cover this in the first hour -show starts at 3pm.

In that regard, he doesn’t have the gravitas to expect to have the ball and take a bunch of shots unless they don’t bring in any shooters (see below).

Also, Iowa State is in desperate need of shooters. Brockington left, and he was their guy. They don’t have anyone returning who’s an offensive minded player. Even Hunter was more of a defender last season. He busted out the shooting for one high profile game, the win over LSU in the tourney. Other then that, I think he shot less than 30% from three all year. The transfer guard from Temple they signed is also more of a defender and occasional ball handler. He won’t take shots away from anyone else.
But that is kinda my point. That roster is not good. If he want to prove he is NBA ready why wouldnt you go to Duke or something. if it wasnt for his Dad. ISU wouldnt even be a thought. No clue how much that will come into play though

I agree. If he goes to Iowa State he may well be asked to do similar things as here, except against much better competition. IMO, the ideal situation for him is going to play with the best players he can so he's not the focus of the offense. If he goes somewhere with other really good players around him who can take attention away from him and it allows him to actually get open looks, he'll really show how good he is.

          • Wouldn't AJ had been able to grad transfer out of here anyway so blaming the portal is kind of useless?

I'm really not all that surprised. I'm just not sure what UNI can offer him at this point. He spent 4 years, playing 3 seasons with 2 conference championships, he fulfilled his duty and now want to be in the best possible chance to get attention and get drafted.

It made sense to come back last year back to a team who was for all intents and purposes supposed to be really good with everyone coming back. Now Carter and Berhow are gone, and as points have been made the team is not barebones, but I'm not sure what another year with this team can accomplish as much as performing somewhere else.

I'm not going to be sour grapes no matter where he goes, even if it's Iowa State if he feels that's what's best for him.

            • My enthusiasm for college sports is waning. I think NIL and free transfers are the right thing to do and better for the kids, but man does it make it tough to invest in caring about mid majors. We are basically becoming jucos that have to rebuild the roster year-over-year. It is like rooting for a AAA baseball team. If your guy is good, he will be gone. I DO NOT begrudge the guys that make that choice. It makes sense to maximize your opportunity especially if big money is involved.

As time goes on, I am more and more OK with the idea that the P5/6 will break off and form their own deal. Go ahead at this point. I am perfectly content watching FCS football and I am cool watching FCS basketball too.

As for AJ, if I were him I would not go to Iowa State. He has played for his dad before. Get another opinion. Go somewhere new with a new perspective that will make you better, you know?

Now that is behind us.....can we get a couple transfers anyone?

                • Tells me he wouldn’t have been at UNI this year if he wasn’t injured.

he wants to play in ncaa tournament and so does Carter.

Wasted the talents of a borderline all American. Never sniffed the tournament.

wont be 1,500 people at home games and be lucky to draw 20 students next season.

it’s time for a purge of the athletic department. It’s broken.

The brother is chiming in too.

Noah buys every bit of their ****. Have fun going 9-22 in the SEC this year while Kentucky, Arkansas, etc expose you...

Oh yes. The only top seed to ever lose the opening game is a sniff alright.

they won one game this year in tournament and crapped away about a 20 point lead in another. Damn that is close.

Well, since you're not a fan anyway, and since you actively hate the coach as it is, I'm not quite why you bother pretending to care as it is.
