Wouldn’t a transfer to another school other than ISU be worse? Hate that it would be an in state transfer but at least I could tell myself that it’s only because he wants to play for his dad.

If he goes to Villanova there are zero hard feelings. If he goes to Iowa State, after they've hired two of our assistants and they were the catalyst for the whole McDermott fiasco. Yeah. Not cool.Originally posted by otter View PostWouldn’t a transfer to another school other than ISU be worse? I dont think so. ISU fans have basically done anything in the power to rip UNI. Now all of a sudden there message boards are full on begging for AJ to come. it is disgustingOriginally posted by otter View PostWouldn’t a transfer to another school other than ISU be worse? AJ going to ISU makes no sense. They were a fluke this year, have other PG coming in who will want ball, probably wont be that good this year. A lot of other schools will offer way more to AJ

My 2 cents - he played with his dad here. He chose to not play with his dad last year. TBH, I just don't buy the wanting to play for his dad for 1 more season. It just doesn't make sense to me. If I'm in his shoes, I go to the best school that will take me. He needs to play the role that he wants to play in the NBA. Here, he's the man and he's defended like he's the man. In the NBA he won't be close to that. Going to Iowa State would be a swift kick in the sack imo.Originally posted by otter View PostWouldn’t a transfer to another school other than ISU be worse? I have far too many hours in front of a computer with serious downtime....Originally posted by DownGoesKansas View PostThoughts and prayers to BC (or i am guessing that's who lol) over the next few week. Has braved the cesspool that is CF more than I would have ha.
As a former ISU student, my interest in them has finally ended.

college basketball is becoming something I can't really have a passion for anymore and I fear that will become the norm. We are in a era where you don't even know who will be on your team from year to year. You always knew (especially at UNI) who was going to be on the roster for the next 4-5 years. It is now to the point you literally have no idea what your team will look like at the end of a season. How do you get invested in something and have a huge passion when you have so much that is unknown. my issue isn't with players being able to transfer like this but what it is actually doing to the sport and specially from the fan perspective (since thats all we are). good on the players for making a decision they feel best with. I just don't think UNI type programs can't have much success when they put time into players and develop them to just have them jump when those other schools see the progress. All of this isn't a new issue but a guy like Spencer Brown is what I love. The guy played 8 man football and had little to not college interest. UNI beloved in him and invested in developing him as a person and player. He appreciated that and refused to transfer during that covid year because he wanted UNI announced with his name.
Whatever AJ does I know he loves UNI and I appreciate his time here making memories for all of us. This isn't really even a AJ issue. It just sucks that keeping talented players at UNI will be a huge issue under the current NCAA rules.

Born
Heise
Duax
Anderson
Phyfe
Kimmons
Campbell
Henry
Wolf
Sissoko?
That's a group that can definitely contend for a Valley title in next year's Valley. The offense should be much more free flowing and Born can be the guy at the end of the shot clock. Frankly, we assumed AJ would be gone after this past year anyway.

Tamin Lipsey is an incoming freshman. While he’s well regarded, he doesn’t have near the all world, headline making value of Tyrese Hunter when he committed, and then kept it after the coaching change. In that regard, he doesn’t have the gravitas to expect to have the ball and take a bunch of shots unless they don’t bring in any shooters (see below).Originally posted by DownGoesKansas View Post

Also, Iowa State is in desperate need of shooters. Brockington left, and he was their guy. They don’t have anyone returning who’s an offensive minded player. Even Hunter was more of a defender last season. He busted out the shooting for one high profile game, the win over LSU in the tourney. Other then that, I think he shot less than 30% from three all year. The transfer guard from Temple they signed is also more of a defender and occasional ball handler. He won’t take shots away from anyone else.

I just don’t like that if he does transfer that it gives credibility to the thought that if you want to play in the NBA then UNI isn’t the platform to do it. AJ wasn’t a diamond in the rough, but if there is one that we find in the future it’s going to be even harder to sell them on staying.
If he does transfer there are no hard feelings. It just sucks.
Between the transfer portal and NIL it’s is going to be tough for mid-majors to build up and/or sustain their mbb programs.

Where do the points come from though? Losing AJ, Carter, Berhow is 44 ppg. Offensively I like Born and Heise, but after that it's not real pretty. Phyfe being 100% healthy would be huge. Daux, Campbell and Wolf are complete unknowns. I don't see Anderson, Kimmons, or Henry as a guys who are going to consistently score. I do think we'll be strong defensively, but man, it might get downright ugly offensively. Hopefully I'm wrong.Originally posted by BCPanther View PostBorn

If Lipsey wasn't from Ames, Iowa State never would have recruited him and if they had the fan base would be up in arms about it. He's a 6-1 skinny PG with a history of injuries.
