It's really frustrating but what can we do? Basketball is really hard to take. Almost have to go 29-5/31-3 to get the last at-large. Translation we may never get it again. The NIT at-large seems far out of reach too. The schedule has always been a challenge but now becomes even more difficult to manage. How are we going to buy games? In football we're having a really hard time surviving financially. How can we buy a game there too? I just can't get over all this changed practically overnight and there's no going back.Last edited by BrockLesnar2; 02-05-2024, 04:22 PM.

It presents a threat that they could break off and run their own thing with most of the money. I think it is setting up an unequal system of financial distribution for the playoffs and TV rights. And if I were Vanderbilt, Northwestern, or even Iowa, I would anticipate an unequal system of distribution within the SEC/Big 10 conferences too. Alabama and Ohio State are not going to be content with just a bigger share, as long as it is the same as Vanderbilt and Iowa's.

Your Cyclone is showing there. Iowa is easily a top half Big Ten brand. Them, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Nebraska are going to be in those national TV spots all the time and drive a ton of viewership because they're 'the teams that plays THE team' going forward and that's an incredible spot to be from a TV/revenue standpoint.Originally posted by UNIdad View Post

I have a tough time seeing unequal revenue sharing but if that were to happen, it's your Indianas, Rugters, Marylands and South Carolinas that need to be nervous.

I think it's no coincidence that Indiana is suddenly pounding money into football and trying to act like they care about it. I think those schools that you mentioned are absolutely in danger of losing their spots in those leagues. Indiana, NW, Vandy. These leagues and TV partners have to keep squeezing for their shareholders at every last dollar they can find. American's are pretty tapped out from a TV subscription perspective, so they have to do it in other ways.
As an athletic department I would put Iowa around #20. I think the number of programs that are capable of winning at national title in football is a list that is 15-18 schools deep. Iowa is just outside of that, but, this is not a bottom tier Big Ten school.
There's talk of the Big 12 rebranding to a different name. I think that would be the first big mistake that that conference is made under the new commissioner. Right now they need to hold on to anything they can find that makes them resemble a power conference. There's a reason that Oregon State and Washington State are fought in the courts for the pac-12 brand. Now that the TV money is starting to roll in for the SEC and Big Ten, the Big 12 will be more like a G5 in terms of their access to the playoff and their ability to retain their coaches.
It's crazy right now what the Big 10 and SEC are able to spend on their coaches or assistant coaches compared to everybody else. SC just hired NDSU's head coach to be a linebackers coach. Which makes it all the more hilarious that Iowa was not able to hire Duke's offensive coordinator when they were probably able to offer 4x the salary.

To me the next move to watch is that happens out west now that Oregon State and Washington State have secured the PAC 12 brand. How many of these Mountain West schools are they going to take, and then what happens to those MWC schools that get left out of that. Do they backfill with FCS schools or do they just join an FCS league.

Not really trying to diss Iowa here. The point is that once the SEC/Big 10 schools separate from the other conferences for unequal revenue sharing, the next step is to do it within the conference. And I don't see the Alabama's and Ohio State's wanting just a top 50% share. They are going to want a Top 10% share. And that means less for Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Nebraska, not just Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern. I won't underestimate the greed of Alabama and Ohio State.

Does it matter? Alabama is still an ass kicker of a program until proven otherwise. Until they stop cranking out stud front seven players on D and NFL levelOriginally posted by iron panther View PostIs alabama really the face of the SEC now or is it georgia?
RBs and WRs, they’re a force.
They could go backwards, sure. I’d want to actually see it though, not predict it.

With Saban out, they'll more than likely take a step back. Maybe not to mediocrity like they were before Nick, but not Natty every other year.Originally posted by SteinPizza View Post

So, same as it ever was? We've always been 4th level. Even if FCS and G5 merge, we're still at the 3rd level in a sport where only the 1st level gets to compete at the highest level and make money. We should have cut football many years ago. It doesn't make any sense to shovel money into that volcano, and it hasn't made sense for at least 20 years, if it ever did.Originally posted by BCPanther View Post

Football is a bottomless pit that we’ll continue to pour money into for what exactly?Originally posted by ofpantherandman View Post
