Another fun fact from D1 Docket--Iowa spent $667,500 on buy games for this upcoming year.
Over/under on them dropping at least one of them?

...It's so easy, this is going to be such a free year to make fun of UI/ISU.

    • Not much we can do about it but we're either going to have a 13 day break between Opening Night (most likely a non-DI) and the USF game or a 13/14 day break between NIU and league play. We've only got one left to get and two big breaks.

I wish the league wasn't set on the two league games in Nov/Dec this year because the calendar allowed you to wait until after Christmas and get 20 in.

I would much prefer the 2 week break after non con ends/during holiday season than have one game with a 13 day break before a big trip that is likely going to go a long way in determining what kind of team we have this year.

I would imagine Jake feels the same way and will schedule accordingly if he can help it.

          • Really tough to get anyone to CF if we need to schedule Praireview, Alcorn, and a non-division 1. Too many breaks might be trouble early. It usually takes a young team a few games to get going, but I think we win the MVC due to retaining talent and getting four new good ones.

It also helps a tiny bit that the team had the chance to travel abroad and play together. Not that it's much by any means, but it's something.

              • The Battle for Atlantis games, at South Florida, at Toledo, and home with Richmond are the tough non-conference ones. Getting some of those would be a big boost. Within the Conference we should get almost all of them. What's their name in Des Moines looks like they recovered their losses and should be the toughest out in the league.

                • We actually worked with Drake to schedule Alcorn and with Iowa State to schedule Prairie View. Those teams can fly up here and get two games for the cost of one flight. It's something you're going to see a lot of with buy games in the future.

                  • UIC, Evansville, and Valpo look terrible and drag us down. It does not appear the A10 or MWC will take us anytime soon. Expand the MVC to 16 has been kicked around. I would be good with 16 with 8 West and 8 East. Play 14 within the division and 8 in the opposite division plus the 8-9 non-conference to equal 30-31 regular season. West: Northern Iowa, Drake, Missouri State, SIU, Illinois State, Bradley, Arkansas Little Rock, and UT Arlington. East: UIC, Indiana State, Evansville, Valpo, Murray State, Belmont, Southern Indiana, and UW Milwaukee. Might not happen either, but up for discussion. Might want to go Thursday/Saturday or Friday/Sunday. Evansville and Southern Indiana would be done in one weekend. Same with Murray and Belmont. In St. Louis at the end I would invite only 12. Play that in the present format. We don't have time for all 16 in a five day tournament. I suppose the extra game with all 16 might benefit the team just before the tournament, but that's a long stretch Wednesday to Sunday. The usual Thursday through Sunday with rest on Thursday Night sounds much better.

                    • Sigh... Has the season started, yet?! How about a closed scrimmage or exhibition game?

                      • Last 2 years the league announced the conference schedules this week (15th last year, 14th year before) so hopefully we get that soon.

Well this all sounds horrible. Let's not do this.

                          • What would be great is to get two conferences to get together in a partnership where one was premier and the other was deliberately lower. And then have relegation and promotion between the conferences.

I know nobody will want to be the "lower conference," but in reality, the only difference would be one could get multiple bids vs. both get single bids.

Yeah, we're broke and need food stamps and section 8 too.

So your solution is to add crappy members to the conference and further dilute the NCAA tournament shares? Absolutely not.
