Interesting the way the college sports landscape is shaping up.

There was a time I thought football at UNI had a real uphill battle...and perhaps a focus on hoops might be the path.

It now is starting to look like mid-major college basketball is in a really difficult spot. Nearly impossible to build any continuity with your program. And hard to replace talent through the portal without the ability to compete on NIL funds which is really tough.

Football will lose a few players to portal/NIL but it seems like there's still a significant pipeline of talent looking for a place like UNI to play...including FBS transfers looking for playing time without the need for a big NIL check.

Rosters will be more fluid in both sports but it may be more practical to build a talent base in football. Not the way I thought this would work out.

Bingo. I also said this to friends last night. We may turn back into a football school after all. I know that Farley enjoys the portal because he feels it does more good for us than bad - at our level.

As it stands right now, the only guy we are directly connected to is Jeremiah Hernandez. He is connected with a ton of other teams though. We definitely have some work to do. I know we are accustomed to finding the perfect fit and Hutson fit that mold last year, but like others have said, we need to get uncomfortable. It would definitely be nice to see some action sooner than later.
