With Bowen, Ty, and Trey, nobody in the league has a better top 3 players coming back, not even close. Have to go out and fill out our roster with some good experienced talent, and we really have a shot to get back to the top of the league.

Tons of new faces, transfers, and new coaches in the league next year. This is there for the taking.

Tbh the way the season ended, Hutty is better than Bo right now. Maybe a healthy Bo is better, but who knows if we ever get to see that again.

I am operating under the impression that Bo will be back healthy next year with a good offseason to get ready. He clearly was not himself this year, but also has not suffered a major injury either, so I see no reason that he can't be the player he was 2 years ago again next year.

        Bowen
        Tytan
        Hutson
        Trey
        Pock
        RJ

This is a good core to build around. Need some wings and some shooting out of the portal.

Rubin and Hornseth coming in give us some size to work with as well. Could use a defensive lockdown player, another 'big' even its similar to Henry just to bang (maybe Courbat?), and another shooter. That's 3 of the 4 open scholly's on my wish list.

            As per the NCAA

In 2023 over 1800 D I men basketball athletes entered the portal. During that same year over 13,000 athletes, men and women, undergrad and graduates were in the portal.

Of the men basketball players that moved on to other schools, 76% (991) enrolled in another D I school that gives athletic scholarships, 4% (58) enrolled in another D I school that does not give athletic scholarships, 17% (222) enrolled in a D II school that gives athletic scholarships, 1% (16) enrolled in a D III school. Of the 1800+ in the portal 6% (116) withdrew and it is assumed returned to their school, 23% (431) did not or are still attempting to find a school or moved on to NAIA or junior college.

In a separate article 40% of athletes moving to power five conferences from mid majors saw there playing time and scoring averages diminish. For those seeking more NIL money, less than 1% saw a substantial increase in NIL in that only 4% of all D I athletes are able to demand the greatest benefits. Those that entered t he portal that were not
receiving a scholarship from the school they were leaving were the majority of the 431 still attempting to find a school. There is a small number of athletes that had a scholarship and were unable to secure a scholarship after entering the portal. (They rolled the dice and lost)

The number one reason of entering the portal is playing time.

360 DI schools (1800) = average of 5 per school that enter the portal.

Approximately a 3rd of those entering the portal are graduates.

We have apparently reached out to Boden Skunberg from NDSU. He’s a senior guard who averaged over 14 ppg last year.

Skunberg was ridiculously efficient last season as a slightly more complimentary piece. He was the guy this year and his efficiency fell. David Thomas from Mercer is a guy we have reached out to, also. He had a solid freshman season in an ok conference, but man he really turned it on over the last 9 games or so. He would be a great add.

Who's got stats and height on these guys? Skunk looks like a Wolf replacement with better handles. Thomas looks like the guard who attacks the basket and can finish in traffic. Doesn't look overly quick though.

Thomas 6'2" 200, also he's from GA. First UNI player from Georgia ever? Skunberg is 6'5" 210. North Dakota native, I don't recall us having many guys from the Dakota's, which is maybe a little strange considering Jake is from there.

Skunberg is 6'5", 210 lbs. Like Wxc said, his overall efficiency fell this year, but not terribly. Last year when he wasn't the main guy, he was 45% FG, 40% 3 3PT. He played A LOT more minutes than Wolf did and took a bunch more shots. Wolf, in his minutes, took 67 3PA to Skunberg's 144 3PA. Wolf is also 6'4" at 195 lbs.

Thomas is 6'2" at 200 lbs and made 45% of his FGs and 40% of his 3PTs. Had 11 PPG.

FWIW, I think there was some speculation that Ege went into the portal to head home, but I'm not sure that's the case. He tweeted a video yesterday with his info including years of eligibility remaining, so looks like he is trying to find another place to play.
To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

Why would someone have to go into the portal to go home?

                            Procedural to clear the scholarship.

If he's staying stateside, that's great. I hope he finds a good situation where there are plenty of minutes!

The issue, and I believe it was said by BC when he mentioned home in the other thread, is that there are a limited number of universities/education requirements that need to be met for someone from Turkey. It's kind of a weird set up, and the fact we landed him was a bit of a "unique marriage" from the start because of it.

I don't know the exact visa requirements/rules/etc. that make it difficult, so I'm not going to try to quote the visa regs, but I know they exist. There are, obviously, other places he can go within the US, and he very likely is trying to explore those. It's entirely likely he ends up back in Turkey. I'd say probably greater than 50%, but I'm not going to claim any extreme expertise on it.

A couple of former targets entered the portal today. Joshua Ola-Joseph and J'vonne Hadley. Ola-Joseph was at Minnesota and only saw about 15 mpg this year. I could see him potentially being a target and fit. Who knows though. J'vonne Hadley played a ton for a good Colorado team this year. He will most likely not be looking at us.
