Comparing the UNI program when Greg started to when Jake took over isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

Didn't Jake come with Greg from the very start? I'd argue Jake has had just as much to do with this entire run as Greg ever did

Very true...but then wouldn't Jake have just as much to do with all of those "shortfalls" as GMac? It cuts both ways. It is also a futile and stupid argument, IMO. What we had with GMac was unprecedented and incredible. Thankfully the program has continued to rise to the point that we don't have to look back on those years as the peak in our program history. But, I don't think this is simply an "objective" look back on the past, either. This is emotion pouring out in all the wrong ways and I would like to think that Panther fans are above all of this. I don't agree with everything that GMac has done while coaching here or since leaving, but I can at least still appreciate him as a former and forever Panther.

This is so funny.....What a victim mentality exists with some of you.

Look, the fact of the matter is that Greg (along with the staff that he brought in, and the support from the AD, and the university and community) did a nice job of building a foundation. NOBODY DENIES THAT FACT.

But the Mac lovers on here seem to romanticize the time he was here. He won FOUR MVC tournament games (THREE were the year they won the tournament).

What was his record the last three years he was here against Altman, Lowery, even Les???

He had better talent in the MVC, that was why he won. But people on here act like he won conference championships and NCAA games.....It's creepy, the Mac love.

Some of the people on this thread are like that guy whose girl dumps him, and then starts seeing other people, and bringing them to the same places you go....Yet, all they can remember is the good times, and they want is that person back.

I still can't believe that Ubuntu knows Mac will win, but hopes that Jake can keep it up....There is a Bluejay board, you can go and hang out there, with Dags.

                  3. Creighton is in a MUCH better position than ISU was when he took over in Ames.
                  1. As was said by someone, the best record he ever had in the Valley was 12-6....What was his record against the other top teams in the league at the time (CU, SIU, WSU, MSU)?

                  2. Where is the evidence to prove this statement?

                  3. But Iowa State is in a worse position after four years WITH Mac. He went 18-50 in the Big 12.....17 of 36 players left the program before their eligibilty expired....The kid that he put his arm around at the pre-season meeting and called the face of the program, left, and there has been many damning things said about Mac and the way he does things over the past two years....

I get it, you are a Mac fan. That's fine. I just think it is sad that you have more faith in him, and are rooting for him, than UNI, and Jake.....

I am just stating we were terrible until McDermott got here. I am glad he was here and he gave us some great memories.

jake has also had a great run and hopefully it continues, but what if jake leaves? Then are we going to hate him and forget about the 09-10 year of basketball because he left our program? Just stating the facts, McDermott was and is a great coach. I am happy he is back in the Valley and will be helping the league out tremendously getting Cu back on their feet.

You're an idiot, How does the fact that I think he is a quality coach and will succeed at Creighton mean I'm rooting for him instead of UNI and Jake? I also think Mike Krzyzewski is a good coach. Does that mean I'm any less of a UNI fan?

Mac came into a bad situation at ISU and seemingly failed to make it any better no argument from me there. Some of the problems were his fault and some weren't, I doubt he makes the same mistakes again.... Your comment about many damning things about Mac is laughable though.

I hope we beat Creighton every chance we get. My comments are more of a caution that UNI needs to not be happy with where we are at and continually get better (which I think Jake will be sure of), because the Valley is coming back.

Mac turned around a crap UNI program, I hate Creighton with a pasion but they are certainly not a crap program.

Of course I am a UNI fan first. However, I am also a fan of the Valley. For this reason only I hope Mac does well. Creighton is one of our markee teams and it is good for all the valley when they are good. Plus the more teams in the NCAA from the valley the more money UNI athletics gets.

For the record in my opinion Jake has done more for UNI basketball than MAC ever could. Jake is just a better coach and person.

i really don't get all the Mac bashing for what he did at UNI. He built more than a foundation here before he left. He was a big part in getting the McCleod built as well. Its pretty easy to look back and say Jake woulda done better w/ Mac's players, but 1)The depth wasn't there at all when Mac was here, I'm not going to go digging through box scores, but I'd imagine the avg minutes played for the starters of Mac's last year had to be ~35per game for most. 2) IMO the Valley was much tougher during that 3 year tourney stretch that it is now. You had a lot of teams w/ players that had played 2-3 years together.

Now, I have no issues at all w/ any Mac bashing post UNI as while he def had some bad luck w/ transfers and such, you can't put that all on the players, there has to be something going on that would cause this to happen year after year. I have no problem w/ him going to CU as it will be a chance to make a fresh start at a basketball minded school, however (cue stephen a smith) he should have had Doug honor his commitment to UNI or at least gone about it a little less sleazy IMO
