You haven't bothered to even talk about the broad issues. Conclusory statements are not discussion. Also making conclusory statements which clearly are created from a perspective that has not even bothered to consider (or read) something posted earlier shows a lack of ability/intent to engage in the on-going discussion.

We're talking about 1 year of eligibility and 2 calendar years. Those aren't the same thing, and they both bring benefits to UNI from a competitive standpoint, as was sufficiently discussed earlier. Making additional, contrary, conclusory statements without addressing those statements is pointless.

We're here to actually discuss this. You should try it. It's been enjoyable.

Centering on the "tampering portion", it appears that CU was involved in the Doug discussion. Early reports seem to indicate that a condition of Greg taking the job was his ability to take Doug with him. That raises at least an inference that CU was involved in those discussions, understood that condition, and was working with Greg to find a way to make that happen. If that is true, then a league institution was taking steps to take a recruit away from another member institution...ie, "tampering."

Oh, my. That would just be the icing on the cake. First of all, I've always liked Rasmussen. But if this is even close to being true, I'm totally disgusted with the whole situation. But as of yesterday, Dannen hadn't had any conversations about Doug being released from his LOI.

The point of my "bla bla bla" is to point out that it doesn't matter.

He is gone, he will play for Crieghton and there isn't a damn think UNI can do about it. Sure they can mess around, tick a bunch of people off, and have him only play 3 years at Creighton but so what? What does that prove?

I guess it proves the next time this exact circumstances happen he better think twice.

Nobody has said anything about how playing hardball will help UNI except for some general statements about money, big business, and Ws and Ls.

How does playing hardball help UNI on the court next season? He still will not be in uniform for UNI.

How does playing hardball help the big business of UNI bball? He is still gone.

Hoe does playing hardball help the the bottom line of UNI athletics next year? Unless Creighton pays us cash it doesn't.

I will wait for your exact figures. Just tell the truth, you are ticked and want blood period.

UNI needs to take the attitude that we don't need him and move on. If we start being petty about this, it elevates Doug to be some sort of indespensable player that we can't win without. That does nothing but undermine our current roster, the ones who want to be Panthers.

Quoted for truth. A lot to be excited about with 3 more years of Jake Koch. Looking forward to seeing Rank and Buss proudly don the purple and gold as well.

To those of you who want to impose the two year rule, just file a lawsuit. If college basketball is big business and Creighton/the Mac's are injuring our school's income through their actions, then file a suit on behalf of the university. Otherwise, we just beat their a$$ on the court for the forseeable future.

Damn Creighton looks good this year, I guess I am not buying tickets for a UNI home game.

I bet their is a lot of that going on in the Cedar Valley. ROFLMAO.

If anything UNI should bump the price to the Creighton game $5 a ticket and bill it as Judgement Day or some other b.s.

Want to bet what the hottest ticket is next year? It will not be the ISU game.

Not my choice, but if those on here really think that college basketball is a business and UNI will be injured by the aforementioned actions, then UNI can look for compensation.

Not true. You may disagree with the things said, but more than that has been presented.

How does playing hardball help UNI on the court next season? He still will not be in uniform for UNI.
And he won't be in a Creighton uniform either. That makes their team less competitive, lowering the bar our team has to clear to win. It also means he will spend fewer years playing for Creighton, again reducing the amount of time we have to compete against him.

Additionally, UNI is going to be one major recruit down next year, meanwhile Creighton is one major recruit heavy. It's more than UNI becomes "X - 1" but also that Creighton becomes "Y + 1". The next effect is a -2 for UNI. Enforcing this rule means that for at least the next two years UNI, who still suffers by losing the recruit, doesn't have that loss doubled, and has time to find a suitable replacement to achieve par.

You don't see how that benefits us?

How does playing hardball help the big business of UNI bball? He is still gone.
It reduces the competitiveness of a key rival, increasing UNI's chances of winning both in the two games against CU, and generally in the overall conference standings. More wins means more money at a time we badly need it.

Hoe does playing hardball help the the bottom line of UNI athletics next year? Unless Creighton pays us cash it doesn't.
See above. If they aren't as good then we are comparatively better, and standings are a pure comparative system of measurement. If Creighton is less competitive then we are more competitive. That increases our odds of winning the league, going to the NCAA tournament, drawing larger home crowds, increasing national exposure and making money.

I will wait for your exact figures. Just tell the truth, you are ticked and want blood period.
Exact figures are not necessary. I would appreciate it if you would counter the above arguments directly and specifically. Plenty has been said, more than once, about what UNI gains by enforcing this rule. Either you have a specific opinion to rebut those statements or you do not.

Frankly I'm a bit surprised at how many people think there is just a bunch of 6'7" JUCOs or high school kids without a scholarship just waiting for UNI to sign now that Doug is gone. Anyone that would be eligible this coming season that has Doug's talent is gone, or else they have some major red flags that have kept schools away. There are nearly 350 DI basketball programs in the country. How many kids like Doug do you think there are? Since he's the #27 best small forward in country I don't see Jacobson saying, "Oh, no big deal. There are tons of kids like that we can go get now."

This is a huge blow to the program whether people want to admit it or not. If Doug wants to leave, fine. UNI can't stop him, but a LOI is a binding contract. There should be consequences for breaking that. College basketball is a business. It employs a staff that depends on the business' success for their livelihood and involves millions of dollars. If I had joined a multi-million dollar organization straight out of high school and signed a contract promising to work there, but at the last minute decided to break it, I would expect there would be consequences for my actions. Doug isn't a child, so he shouldn't be treated like one.

Mac is going to make ~1M a year in Omaha. The NCAA tournament, of which we were a large part this year, just signed a 14 year, 10 BILLION dollar contract. This is big business, and while we all have this warm and fuzzy "panther family" vision in our head, we'd do well to remember that there is no panther family unless we treat this like a business when necessary.
Agreed. College athletics is big business and UNI needs to protects itself from this occurring again. Frankly, I am surprised that the rule is not an automatic two-year benching and that it allows the wronged school to weigh in on the decision, but that is what it is.

Dannen's interests are protecting and promoting the Panthers, especially tough in the current economic environment.

Every high school kid who is a D-I prospect who does not know what a LOI is and how binding it is it is either poorly-advised or just does not care, because D-I athletics has been a big business for decades now.

Doug is gone. Fine. But UNI did nothing wrong and can't go back in time to recruit that roster spot. Doug signed a LOI and reneged on it ... and Dannen should strongly consider making him sit for two years.
                                "Well, that escalated quickly."
