Sell them. Students everywhere have shown they just don’t care about these games. I don’t get it, and I don’t like it, but that is the way it is. Now sell every ticket you can. Save a reasonable amount for the students and sell the rest.

I'm a little surprised they didn't make students reserve tickets like they did a few games last year. We can argue that the student section hasn't been full in years, but I'm guessing we haven't had a sellout in years either. Maybe wishful thinking, but I expect the students to show up big on Saturday - maybe the ticket office does too and that's why they aren't making students reserve tickets in advance? To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

How many of these $10 tickets are being purchased by Drake fans? With both teams having pretty good years, I feel like there could be quite a bit of blue in the building. Hopefully I'm wrong, but hard to pass up these ticket prices in what should be a great environment.

Jumped 3 spots in NET this morning to 40. Northern Illinois got a road win yesterday, but other than that, I don't think we had any opponents playing. To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

It's an instate rival game. It will be the biggest student turnout of the year. I will not be surprised at all if it's full.Originally posted by Wxcpanther View PostI've been a pro student section for YEARS, I literally stood in the student section while I was still in High School and once I got to college, but was going to Wartburg. The student section is a joke compared to what it used to be. There used to be multiple rows of purple and gold overalls leading the charge, now there's one or two. We haven't lost a home game all year, and on a Sunday afternoon with no football to compete with the student section was maybe 60-70% full. I am 100% for selling those tickets if they get to 45 minutes before tip and they're still available.
Say they sell those tickets but the students show up, then what? Terrible look to be selling away student section tickets when they are already paying for them with tuition.
Also, not a doubt in my mind that the athletics department benefits way more from the cut they get from every students tuition compared to selling a couple hundred 10 dollar tix

Full time UNI students pay $60.75 per semester in recreation fee. That fee is broken out to every single football game, womens basketball game, volleyball game, mens basketball game, etc.
The cut the athletic department gets from each student for just the Drake game? About $1.25 per student on campus (there are 49 home events they could use their pass to get into between FB, MBB, WBB and VB.
If it's 800 held for students and all 800 are claimed by students then it is $1,000 to the athletic department in student fees for that game.
Let's say the athletic department gets a $8 cut of the $10 ticket (because ticket vendor fees on the back end). It doesn't take much to see how quickly it turns into being more profitable to sell to the public.

Looking at just the Drake game is insanely misleading. If it's 60.75 per student that's like $1.4mil per year to the athletics dept. In order to justify that amount of revenue they need to have seats ready for the students. There are maybe ~5 individual events in a year where it might be worth selling student tix to the public. But sure giving up that right to students is totally worth the $8k gain from 1 event.Originally posted by clenz View PostNot even close when it's broken out.

We are talking about an entire department over an entire year. Not just the basketball program for 1 game.
Edit: I understand there's more to the recreation fee than that but even if you drop the cost by a buck to compensate for no longer offering free student tix, it's already impossible to make up that amount in public ticket salesLast edited by MNpanthers; 02-05-2020, 09:00 AM.

Money matters and runs the show. However I am interested in a good home environment, butts in seats, that actually gives us a home court advantage. Jake makes it clear developing a better home environment is an important piece of the puzzle to get the program where he wants to take it."My role is to lead, plain and simple. . . .I with the help of my staff and our administration, we will lead." --Ben Jacobson

The average age of a Drake fan is 83. They aren't coming up here to have to drive home in the dark.Originally posted by hoopfan View PostHow many of these $10 tickets are being purchased by Drake fans? Will there be some Drake fans? Sure. Will it really be noticeable? Nah.

How about this for an answer to filling the Student section:
1. Make a pre-game student related entertainment that starts ~30 minutes prior to tipoff. Cheer practice, pizza, whatever.
2. Make the student-only access to the student seats end 10 minutes prior to tip.
3. Use a ticketing app to let people "claim" unclaimed tix and pay with the app. So if you want to go, set the app to tell you at 6:50 that tix are available. Click to buy and you've got a ticket.
Of course, none of this matters if we're not consistently selling out. But the future is bright talent wise for the next few years and we should be ready to maximize the revenue from interest that develops.

You must have graduated like a decade or more ago. That hasn't been the case for a long whileOriginally posted by GoPanthers85 View PostMy last year students had to get tickets before the game to guarantee a seat. They had until about 24 hours before the game to get the ticket then the tickets would go on sale to the public. I always thought that was a pretty fair system, don't know if that is still the case.

I can't get into my normal profile and evidently nobody checks the help tickets here? This post compelled me to create a new profile just to chime in.
I think it's 100% fair to have students claim their seat at least 24 hours prior to tipoff. This is the deal at a lot of schools around the country.
I'm sure there is a way to set it up through myUNIverse and tie it to their school id?
I fully believe we should protect the students access to games, but I also think getting butts in the seats is a very important goal. I think $10 cheap seats is a great way to get people to take their young children to the games and maybe foster some future Panther fans? Besides, once in the doors, we'll gig em for $8 beers!
