I check here every other day or so to see if there is any chatter about any transfers we might be getting, but all the discussion is about Carter. I personally don't care that much where Carter goes. I wish him luck, but I am more curious about players that will be on our team next year.

Has anyone heard if we are active at all? Or are we maybe staying put until we know more about Austin and AJ?
I think it's pro or UNI. I don't think he transfers. If that were a thought, he'd be in the portal already.

Doesn't have to pull out of the draft until June 1 so we're in for a long wait.

    • Makes sense. So my question would be, are we actively going after some guys are are we waiting on those two? Because we might not know about either for awhile.

      • I'd think we're certainly looking to add at least 1 guy, now that a Carter is gone and we have an open scholarship.

Just looking at who the two players are and who the two families are I think the coaching staff probably has a good idea. Probably not certain answer but I am sure conversations have been had.

          • Yesefu with the ball in his hands closing out a final four victory...of course it was his only minute of action and in garbage time but maybe that's worth more than 30 minutes a game at a Valley school. To each their own.

He did play around 12-15 minutes a game the last half of the Big 12 season, I think due to injury. The couple of NCAA games I’ve seen, he’s gotten garbage time. It’s also unlikely he would’ve played 30 minutes a game for Drake, since there’s no way he plays in front of Penn. I agree though, that Yesufu and others made semi stupid decisions in hindsight, especially if you view it only thru this year. I think he has a year or two left so we’ll see.

              • The last 11 games of the season for Kansas, so far, he has played 7 MPG and has 8 or less in 6 of them and 4 or less in 5 of them.

                Games he saw significant minutes

Okie State - 20 plus point blown out - garbage minutes
WVU - blow out mostly all garbage minutes
Baylor - 30 point blow out - garbage minutes
Kansas State - 20+ point blow out - garbage minutes
WVU part 2 - 25 point blow out - garbage minutes

Basically any game that wasn't a 20+ point game at one point int he second half he played about as many minutes as a combination of Drew Daniel (3) and Tytan Anderson (8). If you take the blowout games away he averages 6-7MPG. So he got less game time than Tytan Anderson, Antwon Kimmons, and Cole Henry

                • I would imagine that Yesefu is almost certainly back in the portal this year.

It all depends what he wants. If he wants to play a handful of minutes a game and have a shot at a national title, he's fine where he is. If he wants a lot of minutes and be the start somewhere, he'll be back to a smaller school. A lot of these guys talk about wanting to play at the next level, I don't understand how they think 10-15 minutes a night at a P6 gives them better looks than being a starter and POY contender in one of the best MM conferences.

Usually it takes a five star player to make it in the NBA. AJ was a four star guy. Four star guys can make it, but have a tough road. Throw in his hip injury and there would be even more doubt. Perhaps, he will need development at the G league level for a couple seasons. We'll soon see. The overseas part? I hope AJ and Carter never go over there. Who knows about the war?

                      • Iowa State just picked up a transfer from Temple - 6'5 wing averaged 10 points 5 assists 3 boards.

AJ isn't going to Iowa State

At this point it is either the draft or back to UNI, IMO. I just don't see a transfer for him.

AJ would be very not smart to go to ISU with that roster. And I dont think AJ is very not smart. ha

No clue whether he will be back but shouldn't need to worry about ISU. IMO

                          • If a transfer to anywhere else were even a consideration, he'd be in the portal by now. Obviously he could go wherever he wanted to but it's still a lot easier to get ahead of the musical chair game.

It's here or the pros and that's great for everybody either way.

I also feel "pretty good" that we are at April 4th and he hasn't entered yet. Yes, something like 1700 will be in the portal, but we are already at 1100-1200 in the portal. He would be one of the last in, not a big deal, but you start to wonder what schools that actually fit him are going to be left by the time the draft process is over. He enters the portal now, already being in the draft process, and schools are going to spend their recruiting time and a potential open ride on a kid they don't know is going to be in college next year?

Maybe had he entered the portal up front and declared for the draft I'd feel different.

Yeah, who knows really. Pro is his main priority now. I could see him not wanting to enter Portal until making a decision there (AKA he loves UNI and doesnt want to annoy fan base for no reason). And he also very well could be back to win his 3rd Bird trophy, No idea. And I bet no one other that AJ, Jake and his Dad really know
