I like Portis and Middleton, but they both had horrible and totally unnecessary flagrant fouls last night. Grizz were in their head from the jump.

    • AJ scores 3 in 4 minutes of play. The Bucks defeated Utah.

      • 25 points for AJ with the Herd today, and oddly most came from inside the arc. He also had the bucket to hit the target score and get the W, on a play I'm not sure I've ever seen before...

        • AJ's night is likely done, but he had a pretty good one. 7 points, 3 boards, and an assist in 22 minutes. +/- of +7, taking advantage of George Hill being out of the lineup. Also AJ had a pretty much equal night to Grayson Allen, and an objectively better night than Pat Connaughton who were both starting guards for the Bucks. Please make sure to continue to laugh LOUDLY at the people who thought AJ needed another year at ISU.

          • He also had this play early:

Gets the pass at the three pint line, draws 2 defenders, and finds the open 3pt shooter.

            • I've been seeing more chatter from Bucks fans lately about wanting to give AJ more opportunities. The team needs help with 3p% (ranked 21st) and at this time he's still leading the team in that stat - 47% in limited action.
Yeah, a D+ effort out of me on the day I created the name for this account. I didn't think I would use this account more than once.

              • AJ was a plus 9 vs Twolves. An offensive board shows determination. A bigger role next season for sure.

                • He's really having the best season possible for the situation he was in. Love to see it.

Agreed. He's the absolute perfect guy to have on a two way for a couple of years until the Allen contract is gone. He works his ass off so they know he'll be ready when they need him and playing in the G League is expanding his offensive game big time.

He's going to be collecting a check in the league for a long time.

That's the big thing about AJ. Nobody is going to outwork him. When you aren't the biggest guy, the quickest guy, or the strongest guy - that means a lot. Even if he didn't get squat for NBA minutes, the size, talent, and physicality if the G League was going to mean more for his development than any college would have given. I'm excited for his future.

                      • Lot of playing time for Green tonight, almost 20 minutes, where he got 10 points off of 4-7 shooting, 2-5 from three, being their most efficient player of the night. Seeing a lot of Bucks fans saying that they want more AJ playing time, with the general sentiment being "IDK how bad he is on defense, he can shoot and that's all I want to see." Stark contrast I remember seeing during summer league, when a lot of fans were mad about "wasting" the two-way on him.

                          • AJ played 13 minutes and led the Bucks with a +21 box +/-

                            • We've heard a lot about AJ being a liability on defense, but is that really the case? It seems like his +/- is pretty darn good most the games he's played, so logically it seems that he can't be that terrible defensively. I've really mainly just seen highlights of him, haven't had much of a chance to watch a full game.

He's not going to lock anyone down.

It's the NBA where the defensive intensity is extremely high when it needs to be but isn't what is expected in college on every possession. The game is just so vastly different. He just needs to be "meh enough" and he'll be fine. He's also not going to be put on guys like Curry, D-Lo, Luka, Dame, etc. Because of the nature of NBA offenses, he's easier to hide on defense.

Offensively he is shooting 40+% from deep, hasn't missed a free throw, and has an effective FG% pushing 64, a true shooting % pushing 66, and averaging 4 points per game in 8 minutes per game. Compared to league averages - his FG% is 6 points over the league avg, his 3% is 5 points over the league average, his EFG% is 11 points over the league average, true shooting is 10 points over the league average. He does enough on defense to not be a liability in most situations.

For an undrafted kid that doesn't have high-end athleticism, he's doing everything he needs to hang around.
