Another thing about Bond is that he used a redshirt his first year at Virginia. 3 years to play with 2 years at a quality program that runs fairly similar to Jakes style (at least what Jake used to run, I guess).

I think the best part about Bond, is that at the very least he should be a better version of what we had with Pickford. Or if we want to go more current, a better version of Duax. Maybe a bit limited on offense, but a great defender and rebounder. He has more polish to his game on offense than Duax and can play under control, but he will crash the glass and play great defense.
If he develops a 3 point shot at all, we will be cooking.

I'll be extremely interested to see how his game develops if he gets more minutes. I don't feel like he got enough play time at Virginia to get a good sample.Originally posted by PantherAlum09 View PostI think the best part about Bond, is that at the very least he should be a better version of what we had with Pickford. Awesome. I was hoping we would get Bond. We have needed a threat to drive to the bucket to get the offense moving.
For our last couple scholarships I think we should go after a few great PGs. If we get one, awesome, if we swing and miss, ok because I like RJ and Trey running point.

One last thing on Bond from me that I recently noticed. He was the 75th ranked recruit in the country in 2022. He might be the highest rated recruit out of HS we've ever had (AJ was 78). His potential is huge.Last edited by CyCarp; 04-29-2024, 05:48 AM.To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

Interesting that we're all excited about a kid from a midwestern suburb town. Wauwatosa is only slightly larger than Urbandale. Isn't this the same type of profile people have been complaining about?Number of times on Sports Illustrated cover:
Ben Jacobson coached teams = 2
UNI teams coached by everyone ban thinks is better = 0

It would be if it was their equivalent of Drew Daniel transferring in.
It's not
It's the elite of that area transferring in. Not just the elite of the area. Out of HS he was considered one of the top 1-2% of basketball players in the country in his class. There is a different there. Go back to what I was saying using MSP as a reference.
If you don't see that then you are being obtuse to the entire argument surrounding that topic.

I mean we are excited about getting a 247 recruit with a composite ranking of 60... 20 spots higher than AJ...Originally posted by catsize View PostInteresting that we're all excited about a kid from a midwestern suburb town. It's not the AJs, Jespersons, Morgans, Kochs, Campbells that we've been miffed by.Originally posted by catsize View PostInteresting that we're all excited about a kid from a midwestern suburb town. It's the kids from those areas that have incredibly low ceilings.
Bond isn't that guy.

If I'm counting correctly, out of the Top 20 MVC players, only six are returning to their schools. Tytan was the 3rd best player returning and Xavier Bledson is ranked above him (seems questionable), so it's great that we're getting basically either the best or second best returning player.Originally posted by sevelev711 View PostSo it's not an end all be all, but I was looking at some analytics, and Evan Miya has player ratings and rankings for every single player in NCAA, from Number 1 (Zach Edey) to Number 3006 (Some guy from Alabama State). Leon Bond ranks at 748th in the country, which would actually be our second best player on the team last year, only behind Tytan, just ahead of Heise and Born.

Using Torvik's preseason T-Rank, we're better than we were last year with the addition of Bond.
97th overall and 2nd in the Valley (and that factors in his algorithm thinking that Hunter Jacobson and Charlie Miller are contributors and Hornseth doesn't exist).
Games happen on the floor but with the much better schedule and what we've done in the portal, I have to kind of remind myself to stop doubting Jake in the long run.

Does this take into account anything from Rubin?Originally posted by BCPanther View PostUsing Torvik's preseason T-Rank, we're better than we were last year with the addition of Bond.

Yes, it has Rubin in the post rotation at approximately 12 minutes a night.Originally posted by CyCarp View Post

Minutes:
Anderson 32
Campbell 31
Schwieger 30
Hutson 29
Bond 29
Pock 22
Taylor 13
Rubin 12
Jacobson 6
Miller 3
So when you put some common sense in there we probably move up even higher.
