You're not wrong, at least according to his Wikipedia, he's never coached before. This just screams GB looking for attention and trying to make headlines. I'll be curious to see what Cole does.To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

I’ve seen news stories linking Gottlieb to a few coaching openings over the past couple of years, or at least him having interest. He played on some good Oklahoma State teams back in the day and then became a college BB analyst. I don’t think he ever played in the NBA.Originally posted by CyCarp View Post

While it seems weird to let him keep his radio job, the AD and Gootlieb may be looking at it as a great source of free publicity for both the basketball team and school at large. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

His brother is a well thought of assistant. He has to be part of the deal. The brother can do the actual coaching and Doug can do the PR and recruiting.
Not sure it works and I don't think I would have done it with the program in a good spot but it's a whole new world out there.

Little different, but Rick Hartzell managed to be a high level referee for several years while also being an AD. You could argue he could have been even better at either job if he had quit the other, but that was just how he was wired and it made him who he was. You could probably say the same about Doug.__________________

If they can work cohesively, sure, it could work out. Not that SIU is anywhere in the same ballpark as MSU, but I feel like MSU has had the same type of player (fast, athletic, tall) and done an underwhelming job over the years. Maybe their new coach can continue to make SIU from year 1, that'd be great for the league.Originally posted by BCPanther View PostSouthern Illinois picked up a 6-10 JUCO kid.
That roster is full of huge dudes and they want to really run. We'll see what becomes of that.

They also have Cale McThenia as a true freshman this year who's pretty highly regarded.Originally posted by PantherAlum09 View PostPanthers also recruited two new kids coming in next year that fit what the offense wants to do even more. Kaz Rebarcak can sling it and Jayce Nixon committed really early on when the new offensive staff jumped in. I'm guessing he saw the writing on the wall.Winning is more fun than losing.
