    You can't be that naive.
This is baloney... The neutral game in Des Moines is just a fair for uni as it is for iowa. Fair doesn't mean equal.

A neutral game every other year is worse for both schools than the home/homes.

Agree with your second statement, not your first.

Give me an approximate % for each group of fans as far as who you think will be at the game: if you think more evenly distributed than 80% Hawkeye, 20%Panther, you're kidding yourself.

This isn't some "neutral" site the way an NCAA tourney game is. If they were playing in Kansas City or something, cool - that's "neutral", because there aren't thousands of Iowa fans waiting to buy a ticket in their own backyards. However, the state is loaded with Iowa fans everywhere you go (wish that wasn't true, but it is). Are you honestly going to argue that because Iowa doesn't have the same gym or hoops to shoot at as they do at home that makes the game "neutral"? They have an enormous fan advantage in Des Moines, and everyone knows that the crowd will be far more friendly to them and give them that "home court advantage" in terms of numbers of fans and support. Unless UNI has thousands of vengeful ISU fans show up and root against Iowa, we'll be pretty outnumbered. That's just the way it is.

In any case, I don't like this at all - it's just stupid not to have home-and-homes with all in-state universities each year - particularly when the games are competitive and teams are decent. Saves on travel expenses, too.
Give us a yell, HO! The purple and the gold
      Victory for U-N-I!

Find out what the other team wants to do, then take it away from them.

what are you talking about? the contract with UNI still had a year left, with the game to be played in Carver. that would be a tough win for UNI with an already brutal schedule. you cant play your way into the dance in fall, but you sure as hell can play your way out.

the Big 4 event with be split equally four ways- revenues, tickets, everything. if we dont have as many fans there as iowa, then shame on us. and if UNI cant get 4,000 people to buy a ticket in a city that holds the largest percentage of our alumni base, then how in the hell can you demand with a straight face that we are somehow entitled to a home game versus iowa or ISU each year?

i understand people wanting the series to continue as is. I do too. but people need to quit acting like babies and realize that if UNI wants respect then you cant be relying on iowa and ISU to sell tickets.

i was talking about this year only because we have no idea how iowa or ISU will schedule in the future. iowa returns 3 starters and will be playing 5 freshmen. can you blame them for scheduling weak?

and since when do people here think iowa and ISU are quality schools? from what ive gathered they are nothing but bottom feeders with an inflated sense of self. why the double standard now?

DSM WF arena is a neutral location a location as you can get in the state unless you plan on holding this in Sioux City. Anyone has equal shot at buying the tickets, to my knowledge. If more Iowa or ISU fans buy tickets and show up, that's their choice.

That said, I think the "Big 4" setup in DSM is a net negative for everyone involved other than people that want to get home to Urbandale earlier than normal after a game.

we get a winnable neutral court game vs a top-100 RPI team

we have a ton of alumni in des moines

we recruit the des moines metro regularly

we even have an OP in des moines now

i still do not see how this setup is in any way a bad thing.

Not blaming them for scheduling weak. Blaming Fran the Tourettes Man for stating he needed to schedule tougher and ending up with this pan full of baked goods. Hypocrisy will always get needled pretty hard.

I know the PAC12 thing fell through rather late. But its not like this schedule would have been viewed completely different by adding Colorado or UCLA.

this is where the difference in perception lies. of course UNI loses that, but it is ridiculous to feel entitled to it.

but you dont sign one-year agreements. iowa's deal with drake was done. of course it looks bad this year but thats only if people take it at face value without any of the logic behind it. it doesnt happen in a vacuum. we are talking about multi-year agreements with multiple schools.

No, what's ridiculous is you trying your hardest to spin this into a positive for UNI.

That's funny because that is precisely what you are doing. "UNI got a neutral court game against a decent B10 team for this year, that's a great deal for UNI!"

Really, you think that Iowa will be in the top-100 RPI with that schedule? I doubt that, even if they go 11-2. Their OWP and OOWP are going to be bad.

i didnt say it was better than the previous deal. the previous deal was a gift that was unheard of for almost any midmajor.

it still should be a positive, but the ***** ass fans like yourself will probably be too busy crying to bother buying a ticket to WFA, who will then cry some more about the event being a failure after the fact.
