    Sounds pretty deady to me....

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told the Tribune on Saturday that he will huddle with athletic directors and football coaches to determine the preferred number of conference games.

“We’ll have to go back to ground zero,” he said, “and we don’t have a lot of time to do it.”

Delany said he thought the Big Ten “had captured lightning in a bottle” when thePac-12last year agreed to annual games beginning in 2017. That would have allowed the Big Ten to remain at eight conference games while beefing up its non-league slates with matchups more appealing to fans, TV partners and a playoff selection committee.

But the Pac-12 pulled out Friday because several of its schools do not want to play 11 tough games – nine Pac-12 opponents, a Big Ten foe and, in some cases, Notre Dame or Texas A&M.

“I thought if they could not do it with nine (league games), they would go to eight,” Delany said. “But I guess they had television arrangements that made it stickier to do that.”

Why don't we go to the teacher to decide who started it?

Iowa released their much anticipated non-conf schedule today. And man, let me tell ya, its a behemoth:

                Nov. 9 vs. Texas-Pan American
                Nov. 12 vs. Central Michigan
                Nov. 15 vs. Howard
                Nov. 17 vs. Gardner-Webb
Nov. 20 vs. Western Kentucky (Cancun, Mexico)
Nov. 21 vs. DePaul/Wichita State (Cancun, Mexico)
                Nov. 27 at Virginia Tech
Dec. 1 vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
                Dec. 4 vs. South Dakota
Dec. 7 vs. Iowa State (Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series)
Dec. 15 vs. UNI (Des Moines, Iowa)
Dec. 19 vs. South Carolina State
                Dec. 22 vs. Coppin State

Thankfully for them, they were able to end the series with UNI and Drake, and open up their coveted "scheduling flexibility" as 9YR put it, so they can compile amazingly challenging schedules like that every year.

I mean, if refusing to play games at UNI and Drake anymore allows you to pick up marquee contests like Gardner Webb and Coppin St, you have to do it right???

It's suicidal to play Corpus Christi and USD back to back. Better hope your 12 deep to keep up with those horses....

So is that really only one true road game? I guess Jim Boeheim might be impressed.

Yeah, and it was one that they are forced to play as part of the B10/ACC Challenge. LOL

If Iowa plays Wichita State instead of DePaul in Cancun, the total 2011-12 record of the Hawkeyes’ nonconference foes will be 181-234 and their cumulative conference mark will be 88-124. If it’s DePaul, those numbers drop to 166-247 and 75-137.
Only 3 teams on that schedule had winning records last year, and they are Iowa State, UNI, and Wichita St (who they may not even play).

LOL at Iowa. This will allow them to actually win games and give them some false hope into thinking they are good. As well as ending the series with all four in state schools! Like 06 panther said, it was a good thing so they could schedule big names like T A&M CC....

                          Grow a pair Iowa...

Wow - did someone hijack Hlas' Gazette account? I have never seen that kind of language in his write-ups. God forbid Fran loses more than three of those games (WSU, ISU & UNI). RPI of 400

the drake contract had expired. they wouldnt come to iowa for a single game. drake contract with ISU was also done. a big 4 decision had to be made this year.

also, the pac 12 and norfolk state games fell through within the past few weeks

that being said, that schedule is awful and iowa better be hoping for something like 11-2 and 10-8 in conference if they want to be on the bubble.
