That's a good point, optics would have been horrible.

    • I didn’t want to start a new thread but just saw the Main Street madness thing we’re doing. I like it, just feels weird since we’re clearly going off the backs of drakes idea. Too bad our athletics dept can’t think of this stuff first. Either way, should be fun.

      • They get all the credit in the world for trying. It's all I ask. Should be a fun night!

          BFD in this case.

I wish our AD would look around and steal more ****. It's better to steal ideas for fun **** and do them than literally anything he's done (or not) for the first 6+ years he's been AD.

Would it be neat if we had an original idea - that we don't subsequently drive so far into the ground and beat until dead 10000 times over like we did with the Interlude? 100%.

We clearly don't have that kind of athletic department.

I'm going to give David, and his team, all the credit they deserve, and then some, for seeing something and going "Why don't we try that too?". It's the first actual effort we've seen in years.

Is it a bit of applauding bare minimum like it's ground breaking? Is it a bit like celebrating your very young child for doing something simple to create a positive reinforcement loop? Yes. I don't care at this point. Celebrate the small things at this point.

          • What is the "Main Street " madness thing you refer to? Can you post a link or an explanation?

I'm not sure what it actually is going to look like, but it's scheduled for September 29 and it's going to be done with the city of Cedar Falls. That's all the details I have. Maybe someone has more. They just posted something about it on social media, that's where I saw it. Looks like a cool idea.

              • 99.9% sure it's an open scrimmage/fan fest on Main Street. Drake did the same thing on Court Ave last year.

I don't care if we lifted it, at least it's something. The bare minimum effort is better than anything we've gotten in the last 6 years.

                • Yeah, gonna echo the sentiment, if it's cool steal it.

I’m all for stealing good ideas as well, which is why I said I liked it. Our athletic department should do more than see what everyone else is doing and respond. You’re always going to be behind the 8 ball a little if you can’t come up with things own your own and always have to follow others. Again, I like that we’re doing something like this. It’s a good way to get some community involvement and maybe pull some ppl in who normally might not get excited over basketball.

doing one thing positive doesn’t make up for all the lack of action over the years but maybe this is the start of them being proactive……maybe.

And I would even say that most people have no clue what other universities are even doing with their athletic departments. An average Cedar Falls resident has no clue about what Drake does with their fan base. Steal away. It'll seem revolutionary and can only help.

                      • There’s not much that is truly original.

Someone has always done it before. As much fun as D+ fans are having at the idea we took a page out of their book, they weren’t the first either. I’ve always said the worst part about the lack of variety in openings/activities at UNI is the fact many in our AD attend games at other arenas, yet fail to bring anything home.

                        • I just really hope the team can get off to a quick start this year.

A weird last 2 years, obviously everyone had it I suppose, but hoping with a "reset" can sort of surprise and get 7 or 8 of those first 10 and get some momentum going.

                          • Tytan, Bowen, and Heise were our 3 reps for MVC Media Day. Clearly a lot to be expected out of Tytan going forward if he's a part of that group.

Yes, he will have to shoot better along with the usual defense. Henry will also need significant progress. We are rebuilding this season. So, there will be growing pain along the way. Top 4 finish is possible, but we don't have margin for error. Injury bug go away.

                              • We'll have an answer on Phyfe's status and future in mid-October after next appointment in Rochester. Developed blood clots in lungs in May and had a procedure to remove them and clean his lungs. Jake said that Austin was adamant about playing assuming he's medically cleared.

I don't think his status really makes a difference on this team's floor but it sure matters for it's ceiling.
