Manyawu was a complete no show vs Texas Tech. I think he hid in the locker room from their two bigs. I'd pass.Originally posted by BCPanther View Post
Manyawu, Banks, Combs and Howard are definitely going to end up in Iowa City.
Stirtz is going through the Draft process, as he should, and may end up in an AJ situation. I could definitely see somebody throwing a two way at him and he'd be insane not to take it.Winning is more fun than losing.

I Googled some portal articles about All Wright from Valpo. Big list of schools interested, and the biggest names were Illinois, Kansas, Baylor, South Carolina, and Ohio State. Iowa, Kansas State, and a ton of other schools who had bad seasons also mentioned. Someone is going to offer him some serious $.
Also, lots of speculation on the Iowa boards that Stirtz could’ve gone elsewhere and made way more money than Iowa could’ve paid. Most thought it was due to loyalty to McCollum. I’m sure that’s partially true, but he’s also guaranteed to play in a system which features him. Can’t say that about other offers.

Iowa's NIL situation is that bad. Maybe a new coach gets a bit more into it but Iowa and Minnesota are in the Marianas Trench compared to the rest of the B10. Rumored NIL budgets, as it's impossible to truly know, is that Minnesota is sitting about 1.5m in total MBB NIL. Iowa has been between 1.8-2m. While all the rumors were flying about who was going where the NIL budgets were being brought out. Indiana was/is something like 7 million, WVU is closer to 4 million. From what I could track down, the average B10 has been about 3-4 million.Originally posted by GarretW1797 View Post
Interesting, didn't think about the chance of that happening but I could see it. Wouldn't he make more from a NIL deal than he would from a two way deal though, or is the Iowa NIL situation actually that bad?
However, what will help Iowa is that McCollum only plays 6.5 guys and he has no intention of changing that. That will stretch their NIL dollars in terms of getting kids to fill those 6 slots and then enough to fill a roster out to have people for practice.
For Stirtz it isn't the money. He's loyal to McCollum. He will be going to his third school in 3 years because of him. He could get more elsewhere, but he wouldn't get to play 38.6 MPG and be the #1 and #2 option in those systems. He knows the coach. He knows the system. Chances are most of that D+ roster goes with them. He doesn't have to try to fit in with a coach and roster he doesn't know.

I wonder if McCollum might be due for a similar experience as McDermott at ISU. Regardless of NIL money (not a factor for Mac) will his style of play appeal to big time recruits who like run, gun and dunk to prepare themselves for their NBA careers? I'm sure he will as successful as Fran but can he take the next step? It will be a crucial first couple of years.

FWIW, here’s what I heard on Iowa’s deal with McCollum. $2.5M guaranteed payments to his players (that’s for the total roster, part of the upcoming yearly payments the schools will be allowed starting later this year), minimum $2M per year in NIL, for a minimum $4.5M total. That’s $500K more in NIL than Fran had to work with.
Also heard that Indiana guaranteed DD $7M total per year in payments/NIL. Not sure if that’s totally accurate but you can bet they’re willing/able to spend a hell of a lot more on men’s BB than Iowa is.

This is why I'm honestly not all that concerned about NIL or transfer portal even as things change/evolve. Don't get me wrong, money is important, but it has diminishing returns and will never be our strength. It just shouldn't be our biggest barrier either. Maybe I'm just naively optimistic, but we've been able to retain our roster, recruit decently, attract some people to transfer here all while remaining at least semi competitive scheduling as well as we can.
Obviously it's been a while since we've hit the ultimate goal, and a lot has changed since then, but for a mid-major program, I don't think we're sitting in too bad of a spot as it stands.

Saw a tweet that said all 11 players for Indiana State are in the portal.
Another offseason of pure carnage in the Valley confirming to me that we are lucky to have Jake. Our worst year, last year was a little rough in the portal, but pales in comparison to the average year the an MVC team.

Obviously we have no idea at this point what the rest of the league's rosters will look like yet, they may bring in some awesome players like Drake did last year, but with that said we *should* be setting ourselves up really nicely next year with all of the talent and continuity we have returning next year.
I really hope our team realizes the opportunity they have and are ready to compete at a high level from day 1 next year. You have to take advantage of these opportunities when they come.UNI FIGHT

We've got to be better the first 6 weeks of the year. Would have to think right now, depending on what roster moves Drake and Bradley end up making, that it will end up being UNI and Illinois State as the preseason favorites. I believe we're the only two teams with at least 14 players on the roster currently. Belmont could make a portal addition or two as well though. But I'd be surprised if anyone outside of the 3 I mentioned made enough moves to truly be a threat to Illinois St and us.Originally posted by 06panther10 View PostObviously we have no idea at this point what the rest of the league's rosters will look like yet, they may bring in some awesome players like Drake did last year, but with that said we *should* be setting ourselves up really nicely next year with all of the talent and continuity we have returning next year.
