Very interesting question. I certainly want to keep Tuttle, but am also confident Green can put together a solid staff. The exciting thing would be. I think he would be a solid recruiter & he fully understands defensive coaching. Two great places to start.Originally posted by DownGoesKansas View Post
Sorry bad wording. Can we afford to keep Tuttle if Green gets the job or is he gone in that case

As I read between the lines, he does--or did.Originally posted by DownGoesKansas View PostThe question mark with KG is does he want to be a head coach. Somehow keeping Tuttle and getting KG seems like a huge win but IDK
2017 - AJ commits and Phyfe, freshman year, plays a fair amount behind B.Koch. It’s obvious what he will be able do when healthy.
Kyle Green is promoted to “Associate Head Coach,” which is a new job title.
2018-19 - AJ’s Freshman year. Phyfe plays 7 games and Med-RSs.
2019-20 - AJ’s Sophomore year. Phyfe is one of the most efficient centers in the country. He was #7 nationally on Torvik’s PORPAGATU!.
I’ve said this before. A healthy Phyfe might have been among the best Panthers of all time, taking pressure off AJ and allowing him to work.
With a healthy Phyfe and AJ and no COVID, 2019, 20, and 21 should have all been deep NCAAT runs.
I think they (Jake and KG) anticipated Jake leaving after the 2020 or 2021 season, with Kyle sliding into the Head Coach position.
Obviously health was not on our side for both AJ and especially Phyfe and by the end of the 21-22 season, it was obvious this wasn’t going to go as planned. So Kyle went to L’Ames as a plan B, maybe with AJ going as well.
But Plan A was, I believe, Kyle as Head Coach at UNI by the start of the 21-22 season.Last edited by sivert; 03-31-2026, 11:08 AM.

I'm not going to continue to argue about it. Good Lord.Originally posted by MVCBeat View Post
It changes everything as to what you said. You said Kyle Green "left UNI twice & took his son away after the last time". No he didn't. He didn't leave UNI. He stayed, played his final season with his dad at ISU, graduated, and went (undrafted) to the NBA. There is no way to interpret that as "Kyle Green left UNI and took his son away" that I can possibly fathom.

I kind of go back and forth on this. I think Green would raise the floor. The unknown/potential rewards of the younger upcoming assistant in Tuttle who has shown to be a good recruiter intrigues me too. He's been here 8 years, now.Originally posted by orangetennis View PostIf we can get Green, I think that's the way to go. I'd love Seth to stay, but he's not quite ready for HC duty.
Who could Green potentially bring with him (coaches and players)?
I do wonder if Green would be able to bring any ISU pieces with him looking for playing time. Ideally Green could be head coach and Tuttle could stay as assistant. I'm not sure if that is a realistic option, but it's probably my most preferred.

Agreed. I literally said he is a very intriguing choice. Between him & Tuttle, that's a no brainer to me. Green has been all over the place. With success, he'd leave in a minute. But that's a win-win, as stated. I simply pointed out the fact that he's left twice & was set to take his son (our star player) after he entered the portal. But the NBA came calling.UNI FIGHT

If (and I'm saying if) you were on a path to hire Seth Tuttle and you subsequently got a call from Kyle Green, I think you give him the courtesy of an interview given his son's jersey hangs in the rafters. But you proceed with your plan on Tut.
If you were going to seriously consider other candidates, then you'd do a more complete search process.
But maybe that's not the way this has gone down.Winning is more fun than losing.

Really not the point I was making, but some of you would rather argue w/ me & pick apart any little thing said & exploit an argument w/ me. We all have takes & opinions on here. It's a freaking message board. Can't you just let it be at that?Originally posted by 06panther10 View Post

I'm hearing Green isn't taking it. If that's the case, I can only assume it's a money and/or commitment to program thing. And that wouldn't surprise me in the least. I have little faith in the current AD. It's a wonder she doesn't hire a former drake assistant she knew from des moines. But that's where my bar is w/ that.

This reeks of setting yourself up to have a reason to continue to be the negative and disgruntled fan you have been the past 20 years. Take some advice and try a little positivity while you are on the right side of the grass. It will do both you and your alma mater good.Originally posted by Mudrafan View Post

Kyle may not end up the HC, but it won't be from his end.Originally posted by Mudrafan View Post
