I think I am a little higher on Noah Carter than some of the others. I get the comparisons to Marvin or Pemsl just based on size/build but he is already a better jump shooter as a HS junior than likely either of them will be during their collegiate career. Obviously not saying he will be a All-american at UNI (we can hope) but his offensive style seems more like Niang.

From his AAU coach on twitter.
    20.3ppg 5.3rpg 1.1apg while shooting 48% 64/135 from 3 66% 134/204 from 2! He’s physical, he’s skilled, he’s crafty and he’s not backing down!

I am also not sure Niang ever showed this sort of athleticism and this is only a few months after recovering from a pretty devastating leg injury.

The Carter offer tells me that David Roddy has blown up beyond us. Really similar games but Roddy is a bit bigger and more skilled on the wing.

IMO, Noah has to decide if he wants to be a starter/real contributor at South Dakota State or a rotation piece here.

Marvin was a true center in high school. Noah is a very different player who I have been high on for a while.

People are very high on Betz and I hope they are right but I would guess 99.9% of those people have not seen him play (myself included). But we have heard very little about him recently and his HS numbers were very average for small school Iowa. Sure there are factors there (early commit, smaller AAU team, small HS etc) but it is still a little odd.

I’m not not high in him. I said I haven’t seen enough to get an idea of what he actually is.

I’m not worried about Betz. His athleticism is off the charts. You can refine that for basketball skills. One can have plenty of “basketball skills”.but not the athleticism to use it at the D1 level.

On the flip side your concern about pedestrian numbers, there have been large numbers of kids out of Dubuque schools that looked like sure things and almost none of them have done anything, and I mean really anything, at the college level.

              Who are you referring to?

The 4 most recent are May, Pemsl, Spencer, and Luke.

We would take may and Pemsl all day every day. Spencer has done good things already (and western Dubuque is quite a bit different than Dubuque). So that leaves Luke.

Dubuque Senior- The Haber/Weber/McDonnell group hasn't done anything at the college level.

What recruit did I bash? I actively try to do exactly the opposite.

I tried to find ways to compare him to Lucas and Marvin - two of the most beloved panthers of the last decade, and said I could see him turning into a Jake Koch light type player.

If PantherNation is keeping recruits away they weren’t coming here to begin with. And recruits like Austin Reaves would be here.

I mean I guess but that seems like a big stretch.

Ivy League - With no bigger offers that I remember.
                      D2 - With good numbers

                      Neither was offered by us.

Carter is already up to 6? D1 offers. Seems like an apples to oranges comparison.

From his film, the only thing he can do from the perimeter is shoot. But his release looks low to me. He'll need to change his release to get shots off at the DI level, and we all know that doesn't end well. High numbers don't automatically translate into college success.

If anyone has a link to film of Noah going up against 6'6''+ defenders, please post. I'd like to see it.

Here is a longer video that shows a little more. Most of the post defenders seem about his height or more. Seems to like the quick dribble/spin move and has a jump hook in there also. Also shows some mid-range.

I agree his release does look low and hopefully that can be fixed but my point was that Pemsl has range out about 10 feet, Marvin was never a consistent 3 point shooter so he is already far ahead of either of them jump shooting already and a poor comparison in my opinion. Niang also had a flat footed, slow release and it translated just fine.

Marvin was 3-27 his final 2 seasons at UNI and Pemsl is 0-1 in his career so it doesn't take much.

64/135 for 48% from 3 is a pretty good start regardless of level of competition.

Also, the shot form is not nearly as important for a 3/4 combo player as it is for a 1/2 combo player. Being able to make open shots is much more important.

I'd also compare him to Carlson, maybe a inch or two shorter (but maybe he'll grow an inch?). Looks just as skilled as Klint, but a far better shooter with a quick release. Klint had a slow release also very high, but the high release didn't matter because he couldn't make shots.

If Adam's really leaving, sign him now, before he blows up like Roddy. We'd still have a scholarship to use on another 2019 recruit.

I think Carter would be a decent player at our level. This kids only issue is his body frame is that of a 4 but his height is that of a 3. He reminds me of that guy from SFA that we played a while back (6'6 white guy who played in the post, he was the best palyer at SFA). Not that Carter would be that good, but a guy who's undersized at the 4 but able to figure out ways to produce.
