      • Made a comment the other day about Cole Bair being our only beat writer. That was a little off base, Eliot Clough has done a great job covering UNI.

Here he is reporting that Phyfe's health is greatly improved which is GREAT news for the young man and the team.

Just finished up interviewing Coach Ben Jacobson for tomorrow's episode of Cornstalks and Sports Talk (on https://t.co/tgHR0gFmM0 at 9 AM). One major takeaway: Coach Jake said Austin Phyfe's health has greatly progressed and he expects to be back and healthy in 2022. #EverLoyal
Yeah, a D+ effort out of me on the day I created the name for this account. I didn't think I would use this account more than once.

Kaboom! A healthy Phyfe is instantly one of the best players in the conference.

          • Old news? New news? Jake Koch is back in Cedar Valley as President of Iowa Sports Supply. It was news to me, but glad to have them back…

That's new news to me. Kind of wondered what they were going to do after Netts left.

Yeah, that seems right. I have us 3rd right now. A lot can still change. We might have to bank all 3 of our open rides for 23-24. Guards: Born, Heise, Duax, Wolf, and Campbell. Phyfe and Anderson in the post. Can we make it with 7 given Henry, Betz, and Courbat are still trying to find themselves? If we don't get an add I'd say we're 5th, but that's assuming other league schools pickup players. Perhaps, Henry and Betz will improve enough to give us a 9 man rotation.

                    • I hope we have someone bigger than Ty to backup Phyfe. He only weighs 185 pounds. I know Betz and Henry have played there, I was hopeful they could play other roles but I don’t know if the coaches are changing anything and Henry is about all we have for height. I saw Corbat play in high school and I figured he was a project. I didn’t see any practices last season. Is he any possibility?
we lost a ton of offense. Is Wolf ready? Duax I think will be hard-nosed, hoping he can score. I’m guessing Campbell will need to be ready right now. Lots of questions. Should be fun.

Yeah, your thoughts are basically mine exactly

Outs are gonna be Green, Berhow, Pickford, Carter, and Kimmons. That's 4 starters and a rotation player, or at least 3.5 starters depending on how you want to consider Born/Pickford minutes last year. That's quite a bit of offense lost there.

Getting back a 90-95% Phyfe would basically be like getting another starter back. Otherwise it's seems the rest of the growth is going to have to be organic. Lots of hype around Duax right now which would be good.

I'm guessing the 5 is Born-Heise-Duax-Anderson-Phyfe. There is no way that team replicates the offensive efficiency the 21-22 group had. It should also be much better defensively. The key is going to be mitigating the offensive losses. We know we're gonna get good things from Born, and hopefully a 10ppg Phyfe. The key to me is how much better can Heise get. I think he has to be our guy and get us 15ppg. I'm also hoping for big things from Campbell even in his first year. We're going to pretty much need him from the jump with the loss of all the ballhandlers on the squad. Need to be able to get a solid 8 we can go to, but it's not seeming the cupboard is as bare as it may seem.

                        • Oh undoubtedly we lose a lot .

But Phyfe (if actually healthy) and Born are two very good returning players. Not to mention Heise so 3 starters essentially.

But then there are a lot of wild cards. I like Duax a lot but we will have to see.

Anderson is still very raw. Potential is there but I am still a little skeptical.

                          • Campbell and Duax are both legit and I think Wolf can contribute some offensively. We're in pretty good shape regardless of what we do from here and I'll guarantee we'll make an add or two.

It's easy to forget that Healthy Phyfe was first team all conference ahead of Krutvig

                                And Prim.

If he's at 90% of where he was two years ago, he's the best big in the league and it's not close.
