I don't think anyone has said otherwise. We know it's happening. People are just pissed at mac for making all this happen.

I think that it is interesting how we all assume that Jake is totally ok with this. I think that he knows that he should release Doug because having him wouldn't be good for his own team. But he has to be mad. I mean the way things have went down can't make the McDermott's his favorite family. I highly suspect that the Creighton game plans will be very good in the years to come.

Apples to Oranges here. Mark Farley would be going from an FCS coach to a FBS coach at a BCS school. McDermott is going from a "Major" conference school to a "Mid-Major" conference school. Jake Farley isn't playing for his dad because his skills clearly exceed the FCS level. That comparision cannot be made in the McDermott case.

It's really not that different. In 2317's scenario, most people here would think the Big XII should allow the younger Farley to transfer.

I just hope Mac runs the Creighton program into the ground like he did to ISU. That would be the best long term outcome. Oh, and Doug is a bust on the basketball court without Barnes.

First off - I read some stuff about Mac heading to BJ land at lunch. The I log back on after dinner and see 350 unread posts!

As for Mac SR & JR heading to Omaha. It all may be legal and allowed. You can't force Doug to play at UNI, so why fight that issue. Not to say the waiver issue is still not in play. - Elgin simply said that Doug could play at CU without any restriction if UNI granted the waiver.

However, I believe that without a doubt Greg and Doug have burned a bridge with the UNI community and quite possibly Jake. Leaving someone with the thought that they were the "safety school" does not engender good feelings. It's kind of like being a placeholder date for prom until the real target says yes. Mac might be off the Christmas card list of one CF family this year.

And as little as I think of Jamie Pollard, he got shafted by Mac after going to bat for him not just a couple weeks ago. At least he gets a loving parting gift of a buyout instead of a payout. I swear Pollard falls up.

The net net of this thing is:

                1. Doug & Mac head to CU
                2. Doug will play for Mac eventually
                3. Mac gets voted into the selfish coach hall of fame along side Saban, Calipari & Petrino after jobbin his best friend and alma mater.
                4. Life goes on

I don't disagree with your 'burnt bridges' point, but I think you're overstating the 'Pollard got screwed' and 'McDermott is a greedy ass' points. I don't see how people can blame Mac for leaving ISU. I think he was going to get run out of Ames as soon as Pollard could scrape up the money. It's crazy that McDermott was even offered the Creighton job, but he *had* to take it.

I think we can safely say that Mac or Doug will no longer be piggy-backing onto our NCAA tournament teams and sitting in the purple sections anymore, after their own team ends up with a record like 15-17...

                        Damn.
Why would Elgin stop it unless one of the conference schools involved made an appeal to the conference?

When D. McD formally requests to be released from his LOI, then the ball is in Dannen's court. He could either agree to release him from the scholarship and waive the 2-year transfer rule, or he could turn the request down. In which case Doug will still transfer (they can't FORCE the kid to stay at UNI), but will have to sit out 2 years.

The conference already has procedures in place, dependant on how the schools involved decide to handle the situation. So again, why should Elgin "step in"?

It wasn't meant to be a shot at you, but you were not a big fan of Dougie when he committed......It was in the thread Doug to UNI....

It was to inform Dags about how excited most of the people were that Dougie signed with us.....He was trying to justify the actions, because he is nothing more than a Mac crony......Another of that list of people that are more fans of Greg McDermott than of UNI, or Iowa State for that matter on their boards.

Mac always did have a group that did that for him. Too bad he was awful on the sidelines, and getting players to play for him......

Mac made a career move and his son changed his mind about what school he wanted to attend because of that. I'm in the minority but I wish them luck - except when they play UNI. In light of all the family and personal issues involved in these decisions, I think it is petty for UNI fans to hold grudges against these folks.

CEDAR FALLS - Greg McDermott's move to Creighton has created juicy storylines that stretch from the Missouri River to the Cedar River.

I'll look at it and discus with (Jacobson).
Might as well toss in the javelin and shotput while you're at it.

Pollard could/should have canned Mac this year. But whatever the reason (lack of cash most likely, but Pollard could have actually been honest about the reason) Pollard went beyond the "he has a contract" statement. He publicly went to bat for Mac. I know that is his job, but the difference is the spirit versus the letter of the law thing.

My main point is that Pollard keeps getting lucky outcomes to bad hires.

I am not saying that Mac is greedy - I choose the word selfish with much thought. Mac has already made more $ than 99.99% of the people on the planet will make in their lifetime - good for him. Getting a contract that will pay you handsomely to be fired - good for him. But to put your "best friend" in the spot he did is just plain selfish. Timing counts in this matter - if it happened last year when Doug signed an early LOI (if there is such a thing), Jake has a reasonable amount time to recover.

At the end of the day Mac is gonna be in the lifeboat regardless of who else is in line on the Titanic.

BTW - I also feel bad for Nick Nurse & the other guy. Maybe Nick's resignation letter is not effective yet. Is the ink even dry?
