The Owner of the Iowa Energy said that Nick would be welcomed back if that is what he chooses to do.

There is a story in the DMR where the Iowa Energy president says he can have his old job back if he wants it.

Mac always did have a group that did that for him. Too bad he was awful on the sidelines, and getting players to play for him......

i think your repeated shots at me are clouding your judgement. about the worst thing ive ever had to say about Doug is that he wont be a superstar at UNI because he is a well rounded player who makes others better. i absolutely love his game.

You are prob. corrrect about UNI fans being petty. I have to consider myself as one of the petty ones. I went from wanting Doug Mac to be all MVC to now being a marginal player. I figured Mac would get canned next year and spend the next 3 watching Doug play for UNI.

As for Mac SR & JR heading to Omaha. It all may be legal and allowed. You can't force Doug to play at UNI, so why fight that issue. Not to say the waiver issue is still not in play. - Elgin simply said that Doug could play at CU without any restriction if UNI granted the waiver.

However, I believe that without a doubt Greg and Doug have burned a bridge with the UNI community and quite possibly Jake. Leaving someone with the thought that they were the "safety school" does not engender good feelings. It's kind of like being a placeholder date for prom until the real target says yes. Mac might be off the Christmas card list of one CF family this year.

And as little as I think of Jamie Pollard, he got shafted by Mac after going to bat for him not just a couple weeks ago. At least he gets a loving parting gift of a buyout instead of a payout. I swear Pollard falls up.

The net net of this thing is:

                1. Doug & Mac head to CU
                2. Doug will play for Mac eventually
                3. Mac gets voted into the selfish coach hall of fame along side Saban, Calipari & Petrino after jobbin his best friend and alma mater.
                4. Life goes on
great post, also seems like if UNI grants Dougs release without any restrictions (which they should restrict 2 years) and Greg doesnt give UNI any money, seems like Greg is taking advantage of his so called "friendship" with Jake
(217): Just watched a UNI fan at the bar lick the tears off of a KU fans face.. See what march madness does to people

I notice Newsbreaker likes to twist every situation a certain way to make it out to be the best for UNI. Tampering? Really? By a DAD? Come on--that's crazy talk. That goes beyond simple optimism and borderlines on delusional, IMHO.

Make NO mistake, if Dannen signs the release and supports the waiver, Doug will be eligible to play next year. Read comments from the commish. And I have little reason to believe that release won't be signed and the waiver supported.

And you know what? I should care, but I don't. Get him in and out of Creighton in 4 years. A lot can happen over 4/5 years, but I'd rather see him play at Creighton as a true frosh next year than face him as a 5th year senior, which we would be locking in by signing the release and not supporting the waiver.

Furthermore, at the end of the day, I don't think the kid is good enough for all the wasted bandwidth. He'll be a fine player but I'm not worried about stardom. Let the kid play with his dad. I really don't care much.

I'd try to discuss this with you but it's clear it is far beyond your capabilities.

He is gone, no matter what he isn't coming to UNI now.

If UNI tries to play tough guy all they are going to do is probably tick off somebody that gives a lot of money to UNI athletics (GregMac).

It stinks for the UNI basketball team but the best thing to do is play nice and watch him leave with a smile.

The only negative I will say is this Twitter business. "Its great to be a Panther", "loving it here", .............."it is great to be a Blue Jay". Obviously Doug is saying what people want to here. I would just like for him to be quiet.

I know some have and haven't agreed with my opinions on this situation, but let me say, it stinks being a UNI alum living in the Omaha metro right about now.

It's like running into your ex-girlfriend from High School many years later and

                        A) She is still hot
                        B) She is married to the guy you hatest the most in High School

Link to evidence of those gifts (and does anyone believe they will continue when his new employer is a direct competitor?)

                          • Re: Doug to Creighton

Doug McDermott is an "OK" player...he will be middle of the pack in the MVC as far as talent goes. That being said, he "fits" what McDermott's style of play needs. Make no mistake, this decision was mutually made by the McDermott's...and while it is a father-son relationship, UNI should teach Doug a thing or two about contracts and doing what you say you are going to do. You can't make him a Panther, but you can hold him to the standards that the league has developed for this type of situation. I agree with Newsbreaker...

i think there is a legit case for something...surely you cant discuss recruiting an already-signed player in public until they are released from their LOI. i realize they are family, but there should not have been anything mentioned publicly.

Furthermore, releasing a kid because it might piss off an employee who hasn't worked for you for four years isn't exactly showing off your pimp hand.
