EDIT: Check that - 24/7 Sports shows a timeline, AJ was offered by Iowa St yesterday.
What's interesting to note is that they've already got a 4-star PG from the 2017 class, coupling with there junior JUCO PG (who's playing 16 minutes a game off the bench). If he went to ISU, then he'd get so little playing time in his first year, and then only marginal playing time until he gets to start his senior year. That's not even factoring in the 56 or so transfers that will show up to ISU in the next three or so years.

Meanwhile, he comes here, and depending on how good McCloud is doing, he could probably get at least 6 or 7 minutes a game as a freshman, maybe starting as a sophmore, if not, than being our sixth man a la Wes in 2014-15, and for sure starting as a junior and senior.

I'm not saying there's no reason to go to ISU, trust me, there are plenty of good reasons, but from a playing time standpoint, if I'm a 2018 PG choosing between these two schools, I'm going to UNI.

EDIT: So I'm seeing the same thing on 24/7 Sports, but I'm not seeing it anywhere else, not even on VC, which is the site I trust the most.

On the 22nd, AJs Barnstormers coach also tweeted out...

Gotta say Congrats to @aj_green4 on getting an Iowa State offer tonight. Proud of this kid, he works so hard on his game!
To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

That sounds pretty confirmed then, wonder why no other sites have picked up on it. It's been a week.

If jake doesn't get him then I don't see a bright future for this staff. Green is not the savior but is a start and one that really needs to happen

Maybe Greg McDermott will offer Green a job and AJ a scholarship.

Better yet, Mc$ gets Coach Green enough $$$ that AJ can 'walk-on'...

I would love to see AJ choose UNI. I fear that his choosing so will put him under so much pressure that many UNI 'fans' will critique every growing pain and that he may never live up to their bloated expectations. I remember the vitriol heaped on Brooks McKowen because he wasn't lighting the scoreboard up and all he did was play starting point guard on three straight NCAA teams. See how many people are calling for the benching of McCloud and pretty much every other Panther not named Morgan. Now imagine a son of one of the coaches having a bad start to his career.....
Number of times on Sports Illustrated cover:
Ben Jacobson coached teams = 2
UNI teams coached by everyone ban thinks is better = 0

I understand the hype angle, but I'm not sure going to a power 5 school is pressure free.

AJ is rated as the 130th best player in his class.....yes a kid will have growing pains but wherever that kid goes they are going to expect something out of him....I would actually argue that it might be easier at UNI as many fans don't have the expectations of a kid coming in and dominating as a freshmen (this board would prob have different expectations than your average UNI fan). your reference to McCloud is a little different because he hasn't even looked like a D3 player on the floor. Ill go out and say he will be just fine but that kid needs to gain some confidence and do it now. If AJ goes to a power 5 he will have plenty of pressure on him to preform against some of the best competition in the country.

I'm sticking by my statement in post 193 of this thread: unless AJ is offered by one of the nations blue bloods (KU, Duke, Carolina, UK, etc.) he will be a Panther.

At a Power 5 school, he will either show he can play with all the other high recruits or he will ride the bench.

If he comes to UNI, he will hyped as one of the highest (if not the highest) player ever to come to UNI. You don't think fans expectations will be overblown here? He's going to be one of the most talked about Iowa high school players for the next two seasons.

I like the idea of us getting players for whom the fans can get unrealistic expectations. That means that there is something substantive there to begin with. Of course, we are going to dream about the best possible for each recruit.

Please explain how Academies, Prep Schools, are different from high schools. Looking at MVC school rosters, every school but UNI has 1+ players from them vs hs. In fact, Wichita has 6 plus 4 Jr. College/college transfers. Mo st. Has 6 transfers. Interesting, since the other schools are winning and scoring...

Thats because those players are older. Our new guys are 18 year old true freshman.
