No, wasn't being sarcastic. I'm not saying to stock him, but I don't think the coaches and a group of players being at a few of his home games would hurt. You probably have some inside info but I'm guessing he wants to make sure the new freshmen want him.

AJ got an offer from Nebraska tonight. I'm afraid this ship has sailed. Would have thought he would have committed by now, Really hope I'm wrong though.

He is just going to keep getting bigger and better offers. Kinda sucks but I'm happy for him and his dad.

They are. Not saying he was. They were supposed to be separate thoughts. I just don't think he is coming here. Whether it's Iowa State, Minnesota, Stanford. I'm not sure. I hope I'm wrong though.

Personally I think it's getting close to time UNI pulls his offer since we have been recruiting him for years and he's not willing to commit for whatever reason. We normally back off a recruit after a year and are only holding his open I would assume because of his dad. We need to recruit and offer others at his position and he needs to understand the way he is playing UNI is a two way street and he could be SOL if another recruit is willing to commit. He hasn't and won't get a better offer than UNI. I really have to wonder if his dad is the reason he is not willing to commit. Not every father/son dynamic is the same. Some young men don't want to work with (play for in this case) their fathers. Doesn't mean there is anything wrong with either one, that's just the way it is.

I don't see him ending up anywhere else unless his dad gets a head coaching gig and he does want to play for him. He's not the caliber of player anyone is going to make that offer just to get him. And this is a down year for any of our coaches getting offers as well.

None of us average posters know. But is it also possible that we know he's very likely coming here but his dad is telling him he still should go through the process and not have any regrets. That runs the risk he changes his mind, but it's a posssibility. Who knows, just trying to be glass half full.

He was offered after his sophomore year. It hasn't even been a year yet. They won't pull a scholly offer on arguably the highest ranked recruit to come to UNI, when his father is on staff. There are some guys you move on from after a period of not committing, but this is a unique situation. Not when it's as great (as a person, student, and athlete) of a local kid as AJ, AND who's father is an assistant. UNI gave Bohannon more than a year with an offer (and in large respect I assume due to his family's connection to the program), but in general they seem to be willing to move on after a year of courtship/offer.

If AJ continues to rise his stock, and he chooses to come to UNI, he's the type of player that attracts other better players. Most recruiting services plateau the star/number rank of kids after they stop getting offers from P5 schools, unless they commit to those P5 schools. This could benefit UNI if he does choose to stay in CF.

Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

I apologize, but from someone who hasn't followed recruiting much until now, can someone give a brief overview of the main recruiting commitment dates? I know you can verbally commit at any time (didn't Eglseder "commit" in 8th or 9th grade?) but it means next to nothing. Is it even possible to officially commit before your junior year ends, or is it considered late if you haven't already?

I'm not 100% with the rules, but I know Phyfe verbally committed here in November of his Junior year, LOI was signed in November of his Senior year. I definitely don't see UNI just walking away from AJ. Worst case I imagine is they've talked about when AJ wants to commit somewhere and Jake has probably talked to AJ and/or Coach Green about how long we can wait. We can speculate all day long, but I'm sure there is wide open communication between the Greens and UNI staff.

Eglseder committed between his freshman and sophomore years in HS.
Viet, McKowen, and Dunham all committed sometime around their sophomore years in HS (maybe just after?).
Otherwise, UNI hasn't really seen as many Pre-Jr year commits. That's a shift in general across the country though. UNI has only had two athletes de-commit in basketball over the past 13 years. One opened the way to bringing Adam Koch to UNI and ironically, both those athletes transferred from the schools they eventually went to. Both occurred approximately 10+ years ago.

Verbal commits are not binding. Signing days don't occur until Nov of senior year. UNI honors their commitment to kids who commit to them. I haven't seen anything that says otherwise.

You are correct in that he seems to be trending upward with his offers. If Prohm thinks he's fast/athletic enough to play in his system, then another coach or two higher up the food chain may come to that conclusion too. It won't be a huge shock to see an offer from a higher caliber program at some point.

Basketball aside, Stanford would be awfully tough to pass up academically.

                              Thanks for the info, PTTB.

Just to reset and make sure I understand going forward, we have given a verbal offer. What we are waiting for is a verbal commitment. While neither of these is technically binding, once it is mutual, UNI (and other high integrity schools) will not pull the verbal offer, and it is very rare that a high character player like AJ (or most other recruits UNI has offered) would change his mind. Based on other posts, UNI likes to complete this process earlier than a lot of schools, and if we don't get a verbal commitment within a year or so we will move on but exceptions can exist.

However nothing can be official until November of the player's senior year of HS.

Does this sound correct? Any other insight into the process?
