Watched Conaway's tape.Originally posted by Trapped in California View PostRegarding Billy Conway Jr. - 6' 205 lbs - WR/KR - Shawnee Mission North (KS):
Shawnee Mission North plays in the top division of Kansas football. League is mostly made up of Johnson county KS (generally richer/whiter area of KC metro) and Lawrence- Billy Conaway, Jr., First Team All Sunflower, running back, and Second Team All Sunflower, kick returner, senior
Really like the looks of this kid. I could see him as an RB.
Use him the way the Cards use DJ. Run or catch it out of the backfield.
Split him out wide sometimes and run routes.
Looks like a player who can do a lot of things. Good size too.Winning is more fun than losing.

Agreed completely. Get weapons all over the field, and he certainly seems like he could turn into one. He feels a lot like a Deon McShane but in a much larger frame.Originally posted by Blue42 View Post

I used to do a lot of work for Rivals. Used to be heavily involved in following the recruiting scene. Doing so largely jaded me on the whole idea of recruiting sites for schools outside of the Power 5 conference and players outside of the top 100-150.Originally posted by UNIdad View Post
Appreciate the research. It is nice to have someone digging deep on recruiting.
It wasn't long ago that only the top 100-150 were really profiled and ranked. However, ESPN got involved with Scout and turned it into a way to make money and all of a sudden it went from top 100 to top 150 to top 250. I think ESPN is up to the top 300 or 350 right now as being their "featured" players. Sites like 247, verbalcommits, etc. all sprung from no where. Things very quickly got "gross" for me. I understood just how dumb the star system was, and how little it meant, and how sites would drop a player from a 4 star to a 2 star if he didn't sign with a P5 or how a kid would go from not having a profile to being a 3 or 4 star on signing day with a profile if he signed with a P5 school even if nothing had changed. I also got older and realized that it's kind of "creepy" to be stalking 15-18 year old kids social media sites and following them around to their games and trying to talk to them (I never did that...I guess I did for Rivals...but I mean fans that do that kind of thing).
Having said that, right now I have time. I also know the impact that having a site like HawkeyeNation, CycloneFanatic, Jacks Illustrated (SDSU), and NDSU's new dedicated 247 site, can have with making a kid feel like they belong at a school. After a 30 second scroll through the kid from Lincoln by way of Germany it's pretty clear that the social media side of it played a large part of his connecting with SDSU. He did interviews with the site, and interacted with Jacks Illustrated heavily.
I refuse to do anything on social media that involves even mentioning a recruit on my social media. However, if a basic Twitter search returns an offer or visit being extended I'll post it here.

UNI appears to have hosted a few guys today.
At least one offer out of it so far
Clayton Thurm - 6'4 265lb - OG/NT - Williamsburg, IA
Watch Clayton Thurm's videos and highlights on Hudl. More info: Williamsburg High School - Williamsburg Boys Varsity Basketball / C / Class of 2019 / Williamsburg, IA
2nd Team All State - OL 2A
1st Team All District - OL
OL seems to be his primary position on all recruiting sites and his preference. His frame certainly is set up to take a college weight program well, no matter which side of the ball he plays. He's got room to grow in that frame.
Other offers: South Dakota, D2 MSU-Moorhead, D2 Wayne State, offical PWO Iowa, official PWO Iowa State (both PWO in the last week or so)
Tavius Sykora - 6'5 245lb - DE - Cedar Rapids, IA (Washington HS) - appears to have just been an official visit. No offer - as of yet
45.5 tackles,
7.5 TFL,
2nd Team All-Metro
Other offers: D2 Bemidji State, D2 Wayne State - visited Iowa in November and Iowa State in December

Clayton Kempf - 6'6 260lb OL - Williamsburg, IA
Other offers: None that I can nail down. He does have a decent amount of interest from South Dakota. Has visited Iowa State.
Seems to be a "package" deal with HS teammate Clayton Thurm (what are the odds of two Clayton's on the same OL in the same same HS and then ending up at the same CFB team together?)
Lengthy and skinny kid. Has a frame to work into a 310lb type tackle.

It's absolutely clear that the 3 that signed in December are, at least initially, on another level as the February offers. That can certainly change once on campus, but in terms of college ready body, other offers/interest, accolaids and I can't stress enough existing frames, I can't stress just how "stunning" those first three signed on the OL are.

Anybody know if Matt Cook...the kicker from Cedar Falls High...is gonna kick for the Panthers next year.
Saw something pop up on Twitter that seemed to strongly hint he was but wasn't definitive.
He was class 4A all-state last year saw him kick some in the playoffs. He hit some nice ones.Last edited by Blue42; 01-27-2019, 10:21 PM.Winning is more fun than losing.
