  • I went back and watched one of Henry's highlight videos and what I am most intrigued by is his passing ability. Henry sees the court very well.
I believe it was said somewhere on Panthernation that Tuttle is coming back as a grad assistant. We are going to have a great group of big men for him to work with.

You may be right (although it's arguable, we do still have guys like Phyfe and Pickford), but you have to keep in mind that that he would start at any School in the country except for four or five of them. He's not going to redshirt here.

Also, I don't think this year will be a huge struggle. I don't see UNI finishing worse than fourth, and will probably do better than that. It's just probably going to be the worst of the next stretch of four years, and thats exciting.

      • I think there are going to be a lot of people that will be shocked at just how good AJ is going to be. There is a good chance of him being our leading scorer from day 1. He is gonna be awesome.

Obviously there will be a learning curve, but I think we have a shot to be a much different (better) team this year. With AJ, Tywhon, Phyfe, Isaiah, and Wyatt as the core of the team, we are going to be much better offensively going forward.

        • If Brown can step up this year we could be pretty good. We really need someone to step up in that 3 spot and be able to defend and score some. He doesn’t need to score a lot but needs to be efficient. The other person I look forward to seeing how they play is biggie. He is for me the most interesting player on our roster in terms of complete unknown and possible potential with his size and scoring ability. A lineup of AJ, Pickford, Brown/or Wyatt, biggie, and Phyfe would be pretty interesting. We obviously have the ability to play smaller and have only biggie or Phyfe at the 5 if needed. We should be a drastically improved shooting team with AJ and biggie on this roster.

Cyclonefanatic.com has an interesting podcast series called Transfer U. It is not a perfect parallel to AJ, but the third episode is about the year Royce White, Chris Babb, etc. had to sit out, resulting in the Iowa State practice squad destroying the starters in practice. There are lots of "what if's" about holding out some of the eligible players that year so they could play the next year when the transfers became eligible. Bottom line, it is hard to ask a college kid to sit out a year on the possibility that he will have better teammates. So much can change. And it is a slam on the players who are there. But fun to think about.

So so you guys think Tray or Trae will see much PG time? Or AJ mostly at PG?

Trae Berhow is a wing, he won't play the point.

Tray Croft will play when they want to play AJ off the ball, however, Jake has been pretty adamant in all the interviews I've seen that AJ is going to have the ball in his hands and the offense is pretty much going to go through him. We'll see lots and lots of ball screens.

Brown held Ryan Taylor and Clayton Custer to 2-20 shooting and 4 points in St. Louis last year. I think the defender part is there.

I look at AJ as taking over similar to what Benny Jacobson played. We will see a lot of our typical multiple guard motion offense, but AJ will be the one who typically initiates everything.
Number of times on Sports Illustrated cover:
Ben Jacobson coached teams = 2
UNI teams coached by everyone ban thinks is better = 0

Isaiah was phenominal in STL last year. He took a huge step forward from his freshman to soph seasons. He’s an important player for us.

I think AJ is ideally going to be the primary ball handling guard, but I also don’t think it matters all that much.

We now have several guards who can score and handle the ball, and I would include Isaiah in that if need be as well.

I think we will see a lot if guard heavy lineups with 1 big on the floor. I feel that having AJ, Ty, and Isaiah on the floor as much as possible will be really important because of what they give us defensively, size on the wings, shooting, and in rebounding between the 3 of them.

                      • I have high hopes. I think our biggest struggle will be defending in the post, if we can do that well, I like our chances. We had 2 guys last year who frustrated me to no end, both graduated. We also had a PG who couldn't score to save his life, who transferred out. This team will look very different. Yes, Bennett and Klint had their moments, but man it just felt like they slowed the O down like crazy. Juwan had glimpses of terrific play, but they were just didn't happen very often. I'm most excited about Isaiah - he was real impressive towards the end of last season. I am a little worried about a Sophomore slump from Tywhon, but whenever he's out there, he just wants it more than others - that's something that doesn't slump. AJ is going to be fun to watch. Since he's been around the team since he was a kid, it makes me not worry about him much, because he's seen the work that goes into college hoops. Hopefully there's not too much pressure, but a great PG can really make his teammates look good too.

                        • Yep, this season's squad will be better by subtraction. Ty is like a young Iguadala who will be better offensively when he isn't being counted on for scoring. There will be much better flow to the offense when teams have to focus on a distance volume scorer (AJ) and don't get the luxury of taking a rest while the ball is held forever.
                          AJ will raise all boats.

                          • I'm excited to see Burhow also! I know he's sitting out next year however, the videos on him impressed me a lot. He's 6"5 shoots the three ball extremely well and is a heck of an athlete. I have a feeling that him and AJ will fit extremely well next to each other. AJ at the pg and Burhow at the SG spot of course.

                            • great unofficial yesterday w @CoachJake_UNI and @HoganUNIHoops thanks for taking the time to show me around and talking for awhile! #GoPanthers

He has some D2 offers it seems and considering how full we are for '19 already I would assume a possible walk-on

Hmm... Is there any chance he can reclassify, or he could hide at Kirkwood for a bit? Because yeah, echoing what you said, unless there's a transfer expected, we're all full, and I can't imagine there are many people that are big enough fans of UNI to pay to walk on rather than go on scholarship in D2.
